One of gaming’s worst-kept secrets is finally out, as Bethesda’s Oblivion Remastered is now available on modern consoles and PC. Fans were excited about the remaster when reports of its existence surfaced, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it’s already selling well. What's shocking is that this is a $50 stealth release that's selling incredibly well.

Curious fans will see this remaster has already topped the charts when they glance at the Steam best-sellers list. It goes to show that these remasters don’t always need a ton of marketing in advance, though we suppose those leaks did do the heavy lifting. Regardless of that, fans new and old can finally try this game out to see if it lives up to the hype.

This is only on Steam, of course, but Oblivion Remastered is also readily available on PS5. Seeing Xbox release a remaster of its property, getting a day-one release on rival platforms is an interesting move, to say the least. Even if Xbox is leaning away from console exclusivity, the fact that they immediately decided to release this on a competitor’s system is crazy.

It will be interesting to see how long this remaster stays at the top of the sales charts, though the $50 price tag helps. While $50 is far from cheap, especially in this economy, the rise of $70 and $80 games almost makes this feel like a bargain. That’s not a good thing, but it’s the direction gaming is heading unless something drastic happens.

Still, even with all of that, it’s good seeing Oblivion Remastered already achieve a milestone like this. Before this, fans always thought Bethesda would only re-release Skyrim and nothing else from the Elder Scrolls franchise.

This doesn’t mean we won’t get Skyrim on other consoles, because we absolutely will, but it’s good to know different games in the series are getting a chance at the spotlight.
