It's been three decades, but Samurai Pizza Cats is back, this time with a new video game.

Under the title Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past, this 2D action RPG is expected to be released in 2026 across all major platforms. The game is in development by Blast Zero, a Dutch studio best known for the anime-inspired beat 'em up Jitsu Squad, while Red Dunes Games is handling the publishing.

This revival comes as part of the 35th-anniversary celebration of the original anime, which debuted in Japan as Kyatto Ninden Teyandee in 1990. It eventually took off globally under the name Samurai Pizza Cats, thanks to its action-packed story, offbeat humor, and iconic characters.

The show has maintained a strong following in pop culture, and now this game is set to capture that same spirit for modern audiences. Staying true to the original vibe, the game lets you control the three main heroes. Speedy Cerviche, Polly Esther, and Guido Anchovy are all ready to stop Seymour "The Big" Cheese from messing up Little Tokyo, each with their own set of skills.

The most striking feature is how faithfully the original anime's aesthetic has been recreated. The developers put together a 2D art style that looks just like the cel animation from the show, so it’s like you’re stepping into the series itself.

From the very first shots in the trailer, it’s clear that the creators have gone above and beyond to recreate the essence of Samurai Pizza Cats. To make things even more nostalgic, Blast from the Past is bringing back the original voice cast from both the English and Japanese versions.

For now, all signs point to Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past is a passion project made by fans, for fans.
