- Key Update: This critical opinion feature explains how intense visual censorship, muted audio segments, and intrusive black bars completely compromise the pacing and artistic integrity of the game's Switch version.

- Quick Answer: Aggressive censorship makes Dispatch on Switch not worth playing due to massive black bars, completely muted dream sequence audio, and disrupted narrative pacing.
Dispatch was one of the best games to come out in 2025.
If you played the game on PC or PlayStation, you were able to enjoy the game in its full glory. It's an unapologetically adult game, featuring dirty jokes, sexual content, and nudity - mostly done tastefully and to drive the plot.
But if you got the game on the Nintendo Switch, this is the total opposite. You were greeted with jarring ways of censoring the game, and it ruins the whole game (which sucks, because it's a 10/10 game on other platforms).
Dispatch Is So Heavily Censored on the Switch That It Makes It Not Worth Playing
If you didn't know, AdHoc Studios was forced to censor major parts in Dispatch to adhere to Nintendo's strict regulations on sexual content and nudity. This meant that if something was deemed inappropriate, it would be covered with massive black bars that took away from the scene.

The worst part is Visi's wild dream sequence. Not only is the entire thing basically covered in black bars, but AdHoc Studios was forced to completely mute the audio. It's a long sequence, too, so you're just... staring at nothing, really.

The team tried to fix it by releasing the HR Violations Pack. This doesn't uncensor the game, but it lets you choose how you want it to be censored. You can select a mosaic, the black bars, or "Chaotic" - the latter means it will be covered up by "whatever's lying around," like jorts or a jelly donut. You could also pick if you want Partial or Full coverage (but never none).

The constant censoring throughout each scene makes the game difficult to play on the Switch. It's a narrative game filled with cutscenes, so the fact that half of that gets cut off by black bars ruins the pacing. Plus, Dispatch heavily relies on sound design to dictate the emotional momentum, so hard-cutting to silence for Visi's dream makes everything fall flat.
I can understand why they had to censor Dispatch. Nintendo's criteria change depending on region, and AdHoc Studios didn't have the time or resources to make custom regional builds. They were forced to ship a heavily censored build of the game based on Japan's CERO ratings.

But the fact that Dispatch had to be censored due to Nintendo's regulations doesn't make sense when you think about how other games feature nudity too. The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 were able to release with full nudity intact because it was deemed integral to the world. So why does Dispatch have to be censored? Because it's a cartoon, comedy game? Please.
If the game had to be censored to that degree, it makes me wonder if it was even worth releasing on the platform. Is it fair for players to experience such a wonderful game at half of its potential? I don't think so.
So, if you still haven't played Dispatch, I'd recommend you get it on PC or PS5 instead - or wait until it releases on Xbox.
