Development of EA’s next Battlefield game appears to be in full swing, as playtesters have uncovered multiple new features during their sessions, according to a report by X user @charlieINTEL.
These changes could play a crucial role in shaping the series’ future, especially after the polarizing reception of Battlefield 2042. Now, EA is working hard to position Battlefield as a prime competitor to Activision’s Call of Duty franchise in the ever-evolving first-person shooter landscape.
One of the biggest improvements is the introduction of 60Hz tick rate servers, a major leap from Battlefield 2042’s 25Hz servers (which were a necessary adjustment to accommodate its 128-player lobbies) and even Call of Duty: Warzone’s 20Hz. This upgrade significantly enhances response times, delivering a more precise and immersive shooting experience for all players.
In addition, the upcoming Battlefield is refining its weapon recoil mechanics, making firefights feel more realistic—a welcome change that aligns the series with modern-day shooters, an area where Call of Duty has long excelled.
Movement is also receiving a major overhaul, drawing inspiration from Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s robust omnidirectional movement. Players will finally be able to sprint while crouching and execute combat dives reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid. Visual indicators are also being introduced to provide UI assistance, helping players stay aware of their surroundings.
Set to be EA’s most ambitious Battlefield entry yet, the untitled game is scheduled for release sometime between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026. The project is a collaboration between four studios, each handling different aspects of development. DICE, the franchise’s longtime developer, is leading multiplayer development with support from Criterion Games. Motive is focusing on the single-player campaign, while Ripple Effect is working on new combat systems to offer both veteran and new players a fresh experience.
