Netflix will be producing a Sifu movie. Chad Stahelski, John Wick director, will be one of the main producers behind the film, according to Deadline.
Sifu, for those out of the loop, is one of the most stylish action beat 'em ups in recent years. Launching back in 2022 originally as a PlayStation console exclusive, the game lets you control a martial artist who sets out to avenge his father's death.
If you die at any point in the game, a talisman will bring your character back, albeit slightly older but also wiser and with new tools to help you on your quest.
It's an interesting premise, but the action is even slicker. Being primarily melee-based combat, it's easy to picture a filmmaker like Stahelski able to lend his expertise in shooting action sequences to whoever ends up sitting in the director's chair.
The script will be penned by T.S. Nowlin, who has writing credits in The Maze Runner trilogy, Pacific Rim: Uprising, and Netflix's own The Adam Project.
Not much else is known about the rest of the cast and crew, although the concept of Sifu lets us dream of multiple actors that can portray the titular character. Depending on whether they'll remain faithful to the source material, veterans like Keanu Reeves immediately come to mind when we picture grizzly old martial artists ready to duke it out one last time.
It's clear the age of video game movie adaptations is upon us once again with the Sonic franchise and the Super Mario Bros opening the floodgates. Over at Capcom, a new live-action Street Fighter film is also set to come out soon, with a new director chosen for the project that's set to be released in March 2026.
Sifu was one of the games featured in Amazon Prime's Secret Level TV show, so it seems Hollywood thought expanding on this concept could be a guaranteed success with the right people at the helm.
