Monster Hunter Wilds’ Title Update 4 is here, as Hunters are already prepared to slay the Elder Dragon Gogmazios and acquire the best new gear.
For the first time in series history, the Gogmazios raid will have 8 hunters in a massive mission to slay this tar-covered dragon.
I know you are wondering, “8-player raids? In my Monster Hunter?” Yes. But the caveat here is that you don’t actually get to play with four additional players. Rather, you and three others will partner with a squad of 4 AI-controlled characters. This includes everyone’s favorites like Fabius, Kai, Olivia, and even the returning character Nadia.

Sure, it may sound disappointing, especially for those who expect the final content update for Monster Hunter Wilds as “one massive hunt.” Personally, it’s still a good idea. The 8-player Gogmazios hunt is still the big finale we’ve all wanted to see.
Unless Capcom is using the Gogmazios hunt to set the stage for the imminent expansion? We might see a real 8-player hunt in the future, and that’s something I’m excited about. Of course, I always need to temper my expectations. But this is a daydream that could happen in the future.
It’s no surprise that Monster Hunter Wilds’ clear lack of Elder Dragons ties in to its Zoh Shia lore. But now that the man-made Elder Dragon killer is slain in the base game, this likely builds up on its expansion, to which we know nothing about. But here’s a crackpot theory that's been in my head for days: the Monster Hunter Wilds expansion will focus on Elder Dragons.

Gogmazios is the first to return to the Forbidden Lands now that its protector is no more. More Elder Dragons might be coming, like Teostra, Kushala Daora, and even cataclysmic legends like Fatalis and Dalamadur. We need all the help we can get, and a team of four hunters isn’t enough when world-ending Elder Dragons arrive in the expansion.
The 8-player raid is probably Capcom sneaking in a core feature for its expansion, and we might be in for a treat as we see a full lobby of hunters with Bowguns and Greatswords hunting White Fatalis. Now that’s a sight to see.
Of course, all of this is just speculation, but as someone who has racked up over a thousand hours playing Monster Hunter since Freedom Unite, this feels like Capcom building up to something more ambitious than Wilds’ semi-open-world format.
Whether the 8-player raid is a sneak peek into Wilds’ future content or not, the possibility that we might be getting bigger and epic hunts sounds like a dream that wasn’t possible 10 years ago. Now, with Capcom's technology and increased budget, the dream is slowly becoming real. All we can do is wait.
