Earlier today, the latest Capcom Spotlight gave us a handful of new previews from Capcom’s upcoming lineup, including Resident Evil 9: Requiem, Pragmata, and of course, Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2. The biggest portion of the event was dedicated to the update, highlighting new monsters and features for Capcom’s best-selling franchise.
Among those revealed was Lagiacrus in its modern form. With lightning-infused attacks, this leviathan looks ready to one-shot unsuspecting hunters when it arrives on June 30. However, what surprised fans wasn’t just the return of Lagiacrus and Seregios, it was the fact that the Lagiacrus fight features the return of underwater combat from Monster Hunter Tri.
Underwater Combat in Monster Hunter Wilds
The underwater battle with Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t quite as expansive as the one in Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii. According to the developers, this new underwater showdown is more of an added flair, a fresh twist to break up the usual land-based action the series is known for.
Still, that doesn’t mean hunters should underestimate it. Lagiacrus, being a Leviathan, commands both water and thunder. Its presence alone in its aquatic domain is enough to endanger careless hunters. Who knows, we might even see it borrow moves from Abyssal Lagiacrus, a terrifying subspecies that fans haven’t forgotten.
What Underwater Combat Means for Wilds’ Future
Here’s the thing, even if this is just a one-off feature for a single monster, underwater combat might signal Capcom’s intention to offer a more immersive hunting experience in future updates. And that’s a great sign.
Since Lagiacrus isn’t a Siege monster like Kulve Taroth or Safi’Jiva, the fact that the team went the extra mile to create such a memorable encounter shows their commitment. It raises hopes for what’s next. Maybe we’ll see an original monster in Title Update 3, something that breaks the mold and adds depth to Wilds’ somewhat barebones content. It could even be the rumored “true final boss” of the game.
If Capcom plans to introduce Elder Dragons in future updates, we might see them bring unique, environment-altering mechanics to their battles. Imagine Kushala Daora summoning sandstorms across the Windward Plains, or Teostra igniting the Firespring at will. The possibilities are exciting, and I can’t wait to see what Capcom has in store for Title Update 3.
Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 2 launches on June 30, bringing with it a hefty batch of content including Layered Weapons, weapon balance changes, and general bug fixes. Unfortunately, PC performance issues still haven’t been fully resolved.
