Monster Hunter Wilds’ base-game offerings are almost over as Capcom paves its way for its imminent expansion. After February’s final content drop with Arch-Tempered Arkveld, there are no new monsters until the DLC arrives... unless Capcom shadow-drops one more monster to completely throw us off the trails.
Apart from Elder Dragons, invader monsters have also been the series’s dangerous breeds. They’re the types that usually jump in the middle of your regular hunts, completely ruining our flow and focus. The angry gorilla Rajang and the abominable Deviljho were some of the series’ iconic invader monsters, all thanks to the sheer intimidating aura they emanate when they appear in the middle of our hunts.
Imagine if Capcom adds one “returning” invader monster into the February update.

Capcom is no stranger when it comes to shadowdrops or ‘sneaky content updates.’ In Monster Hunter Rise’s base game, the invader monster, Bazelguese, wasn’t part of any marketing material. Rise’s 2.0 patch not only added the three iconic Elder Dragons (Chamelos, Kushala Daora, and Teostra), but it also includes the series’ notorious B-52 Bomber.
For many players, Bazelgeuse’s arrival in Monster Hunter Rise felt like a shadow drop. It was a complete surprise that spooked players. One minute, they were hunting the new Elder Dragons; the next, they were hearing a familiar theme they weren’t sure they’d ever hear again. By the time they realized a Bazelguese was in the game, they hoped that it wouldn’t be as annoying to fight as that in Monster Hunter World. Thankfully, its Rise version wasn’t all that obnoxious.
Monster Hunter Wilds deserves that kind of update as well, one that will also strike fear among hunters who believe reaching Hunter Rank 999 makes them immortal. Dropping not just a Bazelguese but a Valstrax could shake things up. Of course, given the community’s efforts datamining important content within the game files, the chances of Capcom shadowdropping a new monster are slim.

That doesn’t mean Capcom won’t shadow-drop a new monster in the future. As Monster Hunter Wilds’ expansion draws near, speculation around its upcoming content is at an all-time high. Capcom has an opportunity to be more playful with its community through a random stealth drop. Whether it’s the Bazelguese, Valstrax, or Deviljho, any of these iconic invader monsters would likely send shockwaves through the community. Who knows? They could even lure back players who’ve grown jaded with the game’s drip-fed content.
As one of the biggest games of 2025, players are naturally hungry for more. We’ve discussed the series’ potential expansion content at length in our previous pieces. Things from beloved monsters we’d like to see return to speculation about what the 15th weapon could be are some of the things we’ve covered.
Given Capcom’s track record when it comes to Monster Hunter expansions, there’s little doubt the meaty DLC will deliver. Maybe the expansion will likely add the ‘shadowdropped’ monsters we crave.
