When Marvel’s Wolverine was revealed in 2021, fans were ecstatic. After all, Insomniac Games did so much good with Spider-Man, and bringing that expertise to Wolverine excited a ton of gamers.

Unfortunately, that was all back in 2021, and fans are now wondering if we’re ever going to get any official news on Insomniac’s Wolverine game.

It’s been over three years since this exciting Marvel title was first unveiled, and the only thing that’s been reported since the initial trailer is the Insomniac leaks. The hacking incident with Insomniac was more depressing than exciting, as a ton of employees had their personal information out in public. Even the leaks concerning Marvel’s Wolverine were average, as fans overreacted to the beta gameplay, which might not even be in the final product.

Making AAA games in this current age is going to take longer now, as graphics and gameplay continue to evolve. They also cost a lot more money, since development is challenging and polishing bugs while making character models look good isn’t cheap. We aren’t even bringing up story rewrites, casting actors, and getting music to sound appropriate, hence the long waiting times.

Long waits are understandable, but it does make us wish the folks at PlayStation were patient and didn’t reveal this game right away.

The only official footage we have of Marvel’s Wolverine is that teaser trailer shown all those years ago. His face still isn’t shown, and we’ve all seen those realistic hairy arms on repeat at this point. It was fine for a teaser, and we’re not going to act like Insomniac makes bad games, but PlayStation really should have saved this announcement.

In those three or so years, we’ve seen the rise of several new Marvel games. We’re getting Marvel Cosmic Invasion this year, looking like an amazing beat-em-up from the Streets of Rage 4 developers. Marvel Rivals is available right now and continues to be a talking point with fans, thanks to its addictive gameplay. Lastly, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has fans everywhere excited, potentially offering an even better version of the MvC games.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

How does Marvel Tokon debut with a gameplay trailer, while Marvel’s Wolverine hasn’t shown anything? That’s just troublesome.

Despite our complaints, we do hope that Insomniac’s Wolverine game eventually gets a release date. After seeing the cancellations of Black Panther and Wonder Woman, it’s hard to get excited about new superhero releases unless they have gameplay trailers. It’s why fans are pumped about Marvel Tokon and are concerned for Marvel’s Wolverine.

Anyway, that’s my thoughts on the state of Marvel’s Wolverine and the lack of news surrounding this PS5 exclusive.
