Marvel’s Wolverine Visuals Have Killed My Launch Day Hype

Clunky animation and dreary visuals make Marvel's Wolverine feel like a last-gen letdown.

  • Primary Subject: Marvel's Wolverine (PS5 / Pre-Launch Previews)
  • Key Update: An opinion feature argues that Marvel's Wolverine suffers from outdated, blurry graphics, uninspired color palettes, and clunky combat animations that fall short of Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
  • Status: Confirmed / Opinion

  • Quick Answer: Releasing September 15, 2026, Marvel's Wolverine is Insomniac Games' PS5-exclusive action title featuring visceral claw combat and a standalone story.

When I first heard about Marvel's Wolverine, I was immediately overcome with intrigue and excitement.

I remember when I got my PS5 Pro, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 by Insomniac was one of the first games I downloaded. I played it for hours, and whenever I wasn't playing it, I was watching my partner play.

It still holds a special place in my heart, so I naturally had high expectations for Wolverine. But I'll be honest - from what I'm seeing online, it's not filling me with much hope.

The Graphics of Marvel's Wolverine Are a Letdown

As the release day for Marvel's Wolverine draws closer, I've been seeing more clips of the game online - some posted by PlayStation themselves, while others were shared by people reviewing the title. I wanted to be blown away, but the more I saw of it, the more underwhelmed I felt.

When I think of Wolverine, I think of swift hooks and claw strikes. So, tell me why Logan's movement looked so stiff. Clunky, even. It was disappointing, to say the least. On top of that, the color palette just felt bleak. I know Wolverine is a grittier hero, but it just looks totally uninspired.

Perhaps it's because I was expecting the graphics to be as good - if not better - than Marvel's Spider-Man 2. That game featured bright, eye-catching graphics, with smooth movement whenever Spider-Man would use his web shooters. It was a game I couldn't look away from. Meanwhile, I wanted to look at anything but Logan.

The more I look at it, the more it feels strangely last-gen. We are years into the PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro - the graphics shouldn't look as blurry and as flaw-heavy as they do. Seeing just how bad it looks has killed my excitement for the game entirely.

I know that graphics aren't everything, but they still play a major part. How can the combat feel satisfying if all I can notice is how chopped the animation looks? It's dragging down the impact of Logan's strikes. Right now, I just haven't seen enough to convince myself to get the game.

Unless it receives a dramatic graphical polish before September 15, I think I will be skipping Marvel's Wolverine, at least for the time being.
