Marvel Rivals has just announced its third season, and fans are pumped to jump back in again. Having Phoenix and Blade to use should make this period more exciting, as is the big symbiote theme. While all of that is pretty cool, we’re more hyped over the fact that NetEase Games is interested in bringing this multiplayer shooter over to Switch 2.
Speaking with IGN, Rivals producer Weicong Wu has confirmed that they’ve been in contact with Nintendo to bring their superhero shooter over to the hybrid console. Wu also says that they’re just waiting for the new system’s development kits so they can start porting this game. Although that doesn’t guarantee a port, it does seem like this one is almost in development.
Considering how Nintendo has been more than welcoming about having Marvel games on their system, Marvel Rivals would be a perfect fit for the handheld. Everyone already enjoyed having Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 on the original Switch, so Rivals should continue that synergy. It also makes the Switch 2 comparable to PS5 and Xbox Series, which run this shooter fairly easily.
Having another competitive multiplayer shooter like Rivals on the Switch 2 would make it seem like a more “mature” console to the competitive gamer crowd. The Nintendo brand still has people thinking about Mario and Donkey Kong, so more relevant titles like Rivals would help appeal to more gamers. Call of Duty is also going to do that when Activision Blizzard brings the shooter to Switch 2 in the near future.
One would hope that Marvel Rivals gets cross-progression before it comes to Nintendo’s new console. Most fans of the game have already purchased a number of skins and Battle Passes, so they would want to transfer all of that over. NetEase previously said that they were working on this feature, but no updates have been revealed since.
