Nintendo has announced that the live-action Legend of Zelda movie will be released on March 26, 2027, confirming that this project is happening. Many thought this announcement would go the way of other rumored projects, but it seems that the Super Mario animated film made this movie a reality, making billions of dollars.
While the Sonic and Detective Pikachu movies have shown promise in live-action, we can’t help but think this movie would be better in live-action. We hope this Zelda movie will be a pleasant surprise that blows away our expectations, especially now that it has a release date.
Fans found out the Legend of Zelda movie’s release date through the Nintendo Today app (via Wario 64), showing that major announcements will be happening here from now on. Many assumed this app was just a glorified calendar that reminds fans of events, but this big proclamation shows it has potential. It will be interesting to see if similar surprises are also revealed in this app, like future Nintendo Directs.
There still isn’t any major news on who the cast will be in this Zelda movie and what characters will be a part of it. Link and Zelda will be the lead characters, but it will be a toss-up to see if Ganondorf or Impa is in the flick. Maybe the cast will also be revealed through the Nintendo Today app, but we’ll find out in the future.
A live-action Legend of Zelda movie has plenty of potential, but similar projects have previously burned fans. Many gamers are incredibly wary of the upcoming Minecraft film, even with actors like Jason Momoa and Jack Black in it.
Had the film been animated, we could imagine seeing more of the franchise’s monsters and wacky characters with a fun art style. This could either be a fun romp like Sonic, one of the best adaptations ever, or a complete disaster. We’ll find out soon enough.
