Earlier today, Supermassive Games unveiled new information about Little Nightmares 3, the next chapter in one of video games’ most bizarre and poignant horror platformers. Releasing on October 11, this third installment is no longer being developed by Tarsier Studios, the team behind the first two games. Instead, a completely new studio has taken the reins.

That studio is Supermassive Games.

We float on.

Under Bandai Namco’s publishing banner, Supermassive Games steps in to breathe new life into the Little Nightmares franchise after Tarsier Studios moved on to other projects. Known for creating cinematic and narrative-driven horror titles like 2015’s Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology, and the upcoming Directive 8020, Supermassive is no stranger to evoking fear and dread in their games. That much is already evident in Little Nightmares 3.

A New Era with Little Nightmares 3 and Co-op

Little Nightmares 3 is just around the corner, and Supermassive’s new approach evolves the game’s usual single-player formula into a full-fledged cooperative experience. It captures a similar spirit of teamwork as seen in Hazelight Studios’ It Takes Two and Split Fiction, except Low and Alone’s journey is filled with haunting, indescribable horrors.

Low and Alone are the new protagonists.

Thanks to its cross-platform support, players can experience Little Nightmares 3 with a friend on any console. Even better, the game adopts a Friend’s Pass system inspired by Hazelight’s model, where only one player needs to purchase the game to share it with another.

More Little Nightmares from Supermassive Games

Little Nightmares 3 isn’t the only project Supermassive has lined up for the series. A standalone VR game titled Little Nightmares: Altered Echoes is also in development, although no additional details have been shared yet.

Still, considering the series’ unique approach to horror, there’s a good chance we’ll see something memorable, perhaps with another Lilliputian protagonist trying to survive against nightmarish creatures, but now in frightening VR.

More horror.

Supermassive has also expanded the lore with a new comic book titled Descent to Nowhere, adding even more depth to the franchise’s surreal and terrifying world.

Those who want to revisit the original game featuring Six can get the Enhanced Edition of Little Nightmares by pre-ordering Little Nightmares 3, or they can wait for the full release on October 11 to experience both stories together.

Co-op is an integral factor in Little Nightmares 3.

This marks a fresh resurgence for Little Nightmares, and fans of the series (including myself) are hopeful that Supermassive Games can capture the same dread and tension that Tarsier Studios brought to the first two titles.
