Respawn Entertainment is best known for being the developers behind EA’s Star Wars Jedi series, and the company has teamed up with Bit Reactor for an upcoming strategy game set in the SW universe.
The big reveal is expected to come out during Star Wars Celebration in Japan next year, and fans are speculating what Respawn has been cooking behind the scenes.
Star Wars Jedi 3 Imminent?
Though some fans are almost sure that Star Wars Jedi 3 will be announced at Celebration, the timeline does seem like it would be too early to reveal the game next month. For some context, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was released in 2019, and Survivor was released four years later in 2023.
With the games expected to take years of development, it could be too early for Respawn to go ahead and reveal Jedi 3 when the game could release in 2027. Even if they did reveal a teaser, they could be shooting themselves in the foot if they don’t manage to release the game in the next year.
That’s kind of what happened with Star Wars: Hunters. The game was announced in 2021, and with constant delays, the hype had died down by the time Hunters was finally released in 2024. Now, Lucasfilm Games is shutting down the game come October.
That being said, there’s probably nothing wrong with just confirming that the game is in development. There’s a huge relief for fans when they know that something is coming eventually—too bad the same can’t be said for The Last of Us Part III.
What could They be Revealing?
Besides a third Jedi game, Respawn and Bit Reactor will showcase a new strategy game set in the Star Wars universe. Their panel is described:
“Join Bit Reactor, along with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games, for a first look at a new Star Wars turn-based tactics game.”
The panel takes place on the Galaxy Stage from 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., Saturday, April 19.
No further details have been released, but Bit Reactor has worked on games like Civilization, so fans can expect that level of complexity from the upcoming Star Wars title.
As for Respawn, it’s possible that they could be working on a different title adjacent to Jedi 3. With Star Wars Outlaws having such an expansive world, maybe Respawn would want to make a tight, narrative-driven shooter in the same vein as Uncharted.
If a whole new title is too much to work on, maybe they would want to add a story DLC to give Cal something else to do besides the main story mission. It wouldn’t be so bad to focus more on the other Mantis crew members as well. Who wouldn't want to play as Merrin and get the chance to cast Nightsister spells at unsuspecting stormtroopers?
For now, fans are waiting for the official reveal at Star Wars Celebration 2025, which takes place from April 18 to 20. The Respawn/Bit Reactor panel is set to happen on April 19.
