[WARNING: MILD SPOILERS FOR INSOMNIAC’S SPIDER-MAN 2]

After much hype, Insomniac Games was finally able to release Spider-Man 2, and it tackled a major conflict of two Spider-Men—Peter Parker and Miles Morales—versus a Harry Osborn that has turned into Venom.

The game ends with Peter Parker retiring his Spider-Man persona to pass the torch onto Miles, but it looks like Peter isn’t entirely out of the story yet.

Peter’s Future in Spider-Man 3

In a recent interview with The Direct, Spider-Man actor Yuri Lowenthal explains that fans should very much expect Peter to show up in the third mainline Spidey game. He says, “There are very few things I can say about this game, but you somehow landed on the one thing I can answer. Yes, Peter is not gone. He will be part of the next game, and he won’t just be sitting on the couch, I promise.”

For more context, Peter temporarily suspends his Spider-Man persona to focus on kickstarting his charity, the Emily-May Foundation. He then hands over the title to Miles, who asks Peter to promise to help him out whenever he needs him. Peter agrees.

While some think that Peter could just spend the next game being the ‘guy in the chair’ for Miles, Lowenthal has confirmed that his Peter is going to be back in action by the time the third game rolls around. Maybe Peter can be the guy in the chair in a possible Spider-Man: Miles Morales 2 game—should that ever end up happening.

What to Expect with Spider-Man 3

The end of Spider-Man 2 pretty much sets up a lot of things for the ‘Final Chapter’ of PlayStation Spider-Man’s saga. Besides the tease of a returning Doctor Octopus (who knows the identity of Spider-Man), the game also sets the stage for the much-awaited Spidey nemesis, the Green Goblin.

It’s not clear if the Goblin is going to be Norman Osborn or Harry again. Osborn had mentioned something called the G-Serum, and some speculate that either he shoots Harry up with it, or he takes it himself and transforms into a purse-wearing, pumpkin-bomb-flinging, goblin man.

As for Peter, he’s probably expected to work on his foundation for a few years in peace, but with the villains in the series having a personal beef with him, he may be forced out of retirement to put on the Spider-Man suit again and save New York (or the world in general; usual Spider-Man stakes).

Spider-Man 2 DLC When?

For now, Insomniac hasn’t given any update on the third Spider-Man game, much less any DLC for Spider-Man 2. As far as it looks, the studio could be hard at work at their Wolverine game, which they announced a few years back but have yet to offer an update.

Maybe there’s Spider-Man 2 DLC cooking behind the scenes, but as of now, it looks like the devs are going to be taking their sweet time until they reveal it.

Spider-Man 2 is now available for PS5 and PC.
