With the gaming industry leaning towards an all-digital era, I’m so relieved that Insomniac Games is releasing a physical version of Marvel’s Wolverine.

With Sony’s current stance on physical discs, a part of me felt worried that a physical version of Marvel’s Wolverine would be pulled before it even released. Thankfully, it will still be released - and may be one of the last few PlayStation games to get a physical release.

In fact, releasing a disc version has solidified my decision to purchase the game.

Marvel’s Wolverine Is Thankfully Getting a Physical Release

It has been confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will release physically - box and disc and all. Though there’s no Collector’s Edition in the pipeline, I’m relieved we’re even getting a disc at all.

A fictional character with claws, dressed in a yellow and black costume, appears to be in a threatening pose in a dimly lit room, while several other characters cower or hide in the background.

We’ve reached an era where holding a tangible disc under my fingertips is getting more and more rare. I’m actually surprised PlayStation even let the game have a physical version.

For a massive, single-player experience like Wolverine, physical preservation is a must-have. It’s a game people have been waiting on for a long time. Twenty years from now, I want to be able to pop this disc into my console and play as much as I want without worrying about PlayStation taking the game off their digital storefront.

There’s something beautiful about owning physical media that a digital tile on a dashboard screen will never replace. The thought of my box, with Logan’s unique pose and the bright yellow, feels extremely special. I can even imagine sharing the game with my friend once I’m done.

In an era where publishers are quietly nudging players into a server-dependent, digital-only ecosystem, I’m so glad that Insomniac Games is deciding to continue honoring physical games.
