  • Primary Subject: Marathon (2026 Reboot / Launch Version)
  • Key Update: Bungie has introduced a "Self-Revive" consumable that allows solo Runners to get back into the fight after being downed.
  • Status: Confirmed (Available via loot and the NuCal faction skill tree)
  • Last Verified: March 6, 2026
  • Quick Answer: To self-revive in Marathon, use a "Self-Revive" kit from your inventory while downed. Unlock them by reaching Rank 12 with the NuCaloric faction.

In Marathon, players who are eliminated lose everything they had previously looted during the same run. So, what happens if you queue solo and you are downed?

Why, you self-revive, of course!

For those new to extraction games, figuring out how to self-revive can be a bit tricky. However, have no fear, as this guide will help you come out of your raids safe and sound.

How Do You Self-Revive in Marathon?

To be able to self-revive your Runner (character) during a raid, you'll need to use a consumable called "Self-Revive."

Note, if you don't have this in your inventory, then you won't be able to revive yourself once downed.

If you do have it in your inventory, you will be given an option to self-revive or give up when you are downed. If you click self-revive, it will take a few seconds to come into effect. But once it does, you're officially back in the game.

However, because there's a slight wait for self-revive to take effect, enemy players can rush at you and eliminate you before it kicks in. It is way more effective when you are downed by AI-controlled enemies or environmental factors.

How to Get the Self-Revive Consumable in Marathon

Now, you may be wondering - how do I even get the "Self-Revive" consumable? The answer is simple: by looting (Marathon is an extraction game, after all).

As it's an item with high rarity, your best chance of getting a "Self-Revive" is by looting large containers. If you eliminate a player who had a "Self-Revive" kit, you can take it from their loot.

There is another way to get "Self-Revive" consumables, but it will take some work. First, you'll need to complete the Priority Contract "Introducing NuCalorie" and unlock the NuCal Faction. As part of the faction, you'll need to complete missions and rank up your level until you unlock the "Self-Revive" item in the NuCal skill tree.

After you do that, you'll be able to purchase Self-Revive kits for 500 credits each in the Armory. It's definitely a more demanding way to score a kit, but at least you can get your hands on one before matches!
