Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be playable. Xbox announced that the highly anticipated follow-up to the 2017 indie darling will have a playable demo at the upcoming Gamescom on August 20.

Via a blog post on July 28, Xbox confirmed its presence at the Gamescom show floor, starting on August 20, with over a dozen game demos, including Silksong. The metroidvania will be a highlight, along with the likes of Ninja Gaiden 4, Grounded 2, and even the ROG Xbox Ally.

It's become a long-running gag at this point, but we're finally seeing the light at the end of the drawn-out tunnel that's been the release of Silksong.

Originally thought to be DLC for Hollow Knight, Silksong was officially revealed as a standalone project in February 2019. Since then, it's been almost radio silence, barring the occasional and elusive update from Team Cherry.

It's finally real

The team went over a year without an update at one point, with nothing in between December 2020 and February 2022. An interview with PC Gamer and later a trailer at an Xbox showcase in June of that year were all fans got. Funnily, said event was set to only show titles scheduled to come out within 12 months, meaning fans expected Silksong to drop before mid-2023. The naivety of it all.

In any case, the game being playable can only mean the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong is closer than ever. Xbox and Team Cherry have promised it will be in the hands of fans before the end of the year, but as we've seen before, that's a promise they've broken before.

As mentioned, Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to come out late 2025 for Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, Game Pass, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
