Yup, you read that right. Arrowhead Studios’ critically acclaimed multiplayer shooter is set to make its debut in the tabletop world with Helldivers 2: The Board Game. It’s set to launch on the crowdfunding platform Gamefound on April 8, 2025.
You might be surprised, but this upcoming board game is spearheaded by none other than Steamforged Games, and it doesn’t require a PSN account to play. Players in countries affected by Sony’s regional drama can still get their Helldivers 2 fix, as this is the only legal way to play Helldivers 2 without any PSN issues.
The Helldivers 2 Board Game aims to capture the fast-paced action, strategic decision-making, and comedic elements of the original video game. As of now, the mechanics are expected to be designed for 1-4 players. Additionally, the game will challenge participants to battle alien threats in the name of democracy while navigating the ever-present risk of friendly fire.
Steamforged Games has established a reputation for producing high-quality miniatures, and the upcoming adaptation is expected to feature intricately detailed plastic models of Helldivers 2's alien adversaries, including the formidable Terminid Warrior. If you need more proof of Steamforged Games’ credentials, the studio’s previous adaptations include Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and Hearts of Iron, which have leaned heavily toward strategy and campaign-based experiences.
The Helldivers 2 adaptation, however, is anticipated to deliver a more arcade-like experience, in line with the video game’s tongue-in-cheek, tactical energy.
Players can expect iconic weapons from the original game, including the FLAM-40 Flamethrower and the MG-43 Machine Gun. A press release also promised additional weapons that will be available to unlock once crowdfunding milestones are achieved.
Not only will weapons make a return, but Helldivers 2’s Stratagems will also be featured in the board game. Airstrikes, reinforcements, turrets, and possibly the Orbital Strikes will definitely shake up the battlefield as multiple Terminids get squashed to oblivion.
Unfortunately, only the Terminid faction miniatures will be present in the tabletop version so far. There are no announcements for the other factions, such as the recently added Illuminate and the Automatons. Who knows? With enough crowdfunding, we might see them as a special addition in the future.
