Today, the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) announced the nominees for its annual gaming awards. Microsoft’s critically acclaimed Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga leads the list with an impressive 10 nominations, while Team Asobi’s Astro Bot and The Chinese Room’s survival-horror title, Still Wakes the Deep, each receive eight nominations.

This marks a significant moment for Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga, which, despite being a successful release from Ninja Theory, faced its share of controversy and challenges at launch. The game was widely praised for Melina Juergens’ outstanding performance, stunning visuals, and an immersive audiovisual experience that authentically portrays the sensation of hearing voices.

Hellblade 2 has been nominated in the following categories: Animation, Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, British Game, Game Beyond Entertainment, Music, Narrative, Performer in a Leading Role (Melina Juergens), Performer in a Supporting Role (Aldis Amah Hamilton), and Technical Achievement. However, it did not receive a nomination for Best Game, facing stiff competition from Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, and Helldivers 2.

But Hellblade 2 isn’t the only title dominating this year’s BAFTA Game Awards. PlayStation’s newest mascot, Astro Bot, is also making waves with eight nominations, including Animation, Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Family Game, Game Design, Music, Technical Achievement, and Best Game.

The Chinese Room’s horror title, Still Wakes the Deep, also earned eight nominations, notably outperforming Konami and Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 Remake, which only received a nomination for Luke Roberts’ performance as James Sunderland.

The nominees for the Best Game are:

  • Astro Bot
  • Balatro
  • Black Myth: Wukong
  • Helldivers 2
  • The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
  • Thank Goodness You’re Here!
