Rockstar Games looks to be bringing GTA 5 back to Xbox Game Pass, possibly expanding access beyond just console players.
The addition of Xbox PC app support in recent updates to the GTA 5 launcher has sparked rumors that the game could soon land on PC Game Pass.
Rockstar and Microsoft haven’t said anything for sure, but these recent changes hint that the subscription service might be coming back.
This wouldn’t be the first time GTA 5 has landed on Xbox Game Pass. The game has had several stints on the service, but each time, it was taken down after a limited run. Its most recent stint was in 2024, but players looking to dive into Los Santos via Game Pass have been out of luck since then.
However, new evidence suggests that GTA 5 might not only be making a comeback to the service but could also be expanding to PC Game Pass for the first time.
Much of the speculation comes from well-known Rockstar insider Tez2, who noticed that the latest Rockstar Games Launcher update now links up with the Xbox PC app.
Rockstar hasn’t commented on this yet, but changes like this usually happen for a reason, especially in a game as big as GTA 5. If this is the case, it would be a big deal since PC Game Pass subscribers have never had GTA 5 on the service before.
Rockstar recently pushed a solid update for GTA 5 on PC, so it’s now more in line with the next-gen versions.
Reports also indicate that negotiations for this move have been going on for years. When Microsoft was acquiring Activision Blizzard, internal docs showed that Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar’s parent) had been considering adding the game to PC Game Pass. The documents reveal that Take-Two was requesting between $12 million and $15 million per month to make it happen.
It’s being speculated that GTA 5 coming back to Game Pass could be part of a bigger plan for GTA 6. Rockstar is known for its well-timed announcements, and some fans think GTA 5 returning to Game Pass is a way to keep players engaged while excitement builds for the next game.
For now, all we can do is wait and see if these rumors are on point.
