The first Gears returns with a modernized version called Gears of War: Reloaded. As preparation for the franchise's 20th anniversary in 2026, Xbox has announced a new version of its third-person classic.

Reloaded is a new remaster of the original title launching for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The PlayStation release doesn't come as a surprise since Xbox has already shifted its priorities and is now publishing its exclusives for Sony's console.

The game will feature all the campaign and multiplayer content, along with the post-launch content, completely optimized with up to 4k resolution graphics, 60 FPS in Campaign, 120 FPS in Multiplayer, HDR support, zero loading screens in the Campaign, and more.

Xbox released a few in-game screenshots comparing the graphics and resolution of Reloaded with the original title and the Ultimate Edition, the 2015 remaster that was released for Xbox One and PC.

The Campaign will support two-player co-op, and the Multiplayer offers cross-play across all platforms without the requirement of using a Microsoft account.

However, the official Xbox Wire post does specify that signing up with a Microsoft account will enable cross-progression, meaning your stats and progress will remain the same no matter which platform you're enjoying the game.

The game is scheduled to come out on August 26, 2025, and will cost $40. As expected, Ultimate Game Pass and PC Game Pass members will receive access to the title for free.

On top of that, all the players who own the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will receive a free upgrade, meaning they will be able to enjoy reloaded for free or without having to spend any extra money. The official blog explained that all players who own the Ultimate Edition before May 5, 2025 will receive the new remaster once it's out.
