  • Quick Answer: The Gears of War: E-Day gameplay demo gives us an early look at Marcus Fenix surviving Emergence Day.

The Xbox Games Showcase 2026 started with a first look at a gameplay demo of Gears of War: E-Day, probably one of their most anticipated first-party titles.

The prequel is set to explore one of the most important events in the franchise's story: Emergence Day, when the Locus Horde race executed a planet-wide assault on the surface of Sera using bio-engineer weapons and human technology.

The game picks up in the middle of the invasion, as we see Marcus Fenix and others battle against the Locus Horde in the middle of the street, while they attend a distress call. The team gets cornered inside a supermarket until a young Tai Kaliso comes to the rescue and cuts a Grub in half with a chainsaw.

For those who missed it or if you want to give it another look, here is the gameplay demo showcased at the presentation:

Asha Sharma, Xbox's new CEO, showed up right after the gameplay demo to announce that Gears of War: E-Day will be an Xbox console exclusive, confirming the leaked information that was circulating online hours before the showcase.

In other words, a PlayStation 5 version of the game is now off the cards, meaning the only Gears remaining on Sony's console will be Gears of War: Reloaded.

Gears of War: E-Day is scheduled to come out on October 6, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC. An open beta for the multiplayer will take place on August 6, and anyone who pre-orders the title will get early access to it.
