Westeros is inviting you in again, but this time as a fully interactive action-adventure RPG, not just through your TV.
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is now in Early Access on Steam with a fresh story that runs parallel to Season 4. The game was developed by Netmarble and licensed through HBO and Warner Bros.
This interactive game boldly returns to the Seven Kingdoms, but now it's your name on the line.
Kingsroad puts players in control of a brand-new character, the final heir of House Tyre, a little-known Northern house tangled in Westerosi politics.
The realm's falling apart with betrayal, war, and a frozen apocalypse, and your character has to rebuild their family's legacy and find their place among the nobles, outlaws, and legends.
Players have three playable classes to choose from: Knight, Sellsword, or Assassin. Each one has its own combat style and abilities, so expect to time your parries, dodges, and attack chains just right for the best results.
The class you choose, whether it's a tank, rogue, or mercenary, will define your journey across Westeros. If you're not sure which path to take, all three classes are shown on the Steam page to help you choose.
The game takes you through iconic landmarks such as Castle Black, The Wall, King's Landing, and later The Reach. As you go, you'll run into familiar faces like Jon Snow, Cersei Lannister, Lord Varys, and others.
The narrative is also built from the ground up, written specifically for the game, and designed to give you a new experience that still honors the original. Content-wise, Kingsroad doesn't feel half-baked despite its Early Access status.
The build comes with 50 main story chapters, side quests, open-world exploration, co-op dungeon raids, and even post-game PvE challenges. To access the game in Early Access, players need to buy one of the Founder's Packs.
These packs range from a basic $24.99 tier to premium bundles that include cosmetics, mounts, battle pass access, and in-game currency. The full game will go free-to-play later this year, but for now, this early purchase is the only way to start and get a jump on your character's progression.
Netmarble expects Early Access to go on for at least four weeks and is keeping an eye on player feedback to tweak the gameplay, pacing, and balance.
If you're after rich lore, the freedom to forge your own path, or want to smash an Ice Spider with a greatsword, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad offers more than your typical franchise tie-in.
