Are We About to See a Bloodborne Sequel After All?

Bloodborne Sequel

Bloodborne Sequel

Bloodborne fans have been riding a rollercoaster of emotions for years, hoping for some kind of revival—whether a sequel, a remaster, or even just a simple 60 FPS patch.

Recent events have reignited the debate over whether Sony and FromSoftware might revisit Yharnam or if fans are setting themselves up for another round of disappointment.

Bloodborne remains one of FromSoftware’s most beloved games, and the demand for a sequel has never truly died down. Reddit, X, YouTube—you name it, fans are all about wanting more.

The Elden Ring: Nightreign network test stirred up more speculation, especially after a survey went out asking players if they’d like to see a Bloodborne sequel. The survey screenshot was first shared on X by Nightreign Countdown, and before long, other players were confirming they got the same thing. While the form included several FromSoft titles, not just Bloodborne, it was enough to set the community off.

The reaction was instant. Some players took it as a sign that Sony and FromSoftware were testing the waters, but others weren't buying it, remembering past surveys that went nowhere. It’s probably safer to bet on a Dark Souls 2 sequel than another Yharnam visit. But if anything, the amount of players asking for Bloodborne to come back shows that the hunger is still there.

One of the biggest obstacles to a Bloodborne sequel is its ownership. Unlike Dark Souls or Elden Ring, both published by Bandai Namco, Bloodborne is a PlayStation-exclusive title. This means FromSoftware can’t make a sequel on their own—they would need Sony's approval and funding to do so. And historically, Sony hasn’t shown much interest in reviving Bloodborne.

However, there’s been an interesting shift. As of late 2024, Sony has taken the top spot as Kadokawa’s (FromSoftware's parent company) largest shareholder, with a 10% stake. Although they don’t have complete control over FromSoftware, this does give them considerable influence, which could increase the chances of a sequel or remaster. At the very least, it puts Sony in a stronger position to invest in Bloodborne if they choose to do so.

Many industry insiders and fans have also debated whether Bloodborne even needs a sequel. Mechanically, it’s up there as one of FromSoft’s best, with quick and slick combat that many say beats Dark Souls. A sequel could refine these mechanics and expand on the dark lore of Yharnam's twisted world.

With Bloodborne’s tenth anniversary approaching in 2025, this would be the perfect time for Sony to announce something—anything. The survey from the Elden Ring network test at least proves that FromSoftware and Bandai Namco are aware of the demand.

For now, Bloodborne remains trapped in limbo, a PlayStation classic that fans refuse to let go of.
