- Quick Answer: Final Fantasy Resonance is a premium single-player JRPG adapting Brave Exvius' story into HD-2D, completely removing mobile gacha microtransactions and energy systems.
Back in the day, I was a major mobile gamer. Saw a game that looked cool on the App Store? Consider it downloaded. That's how I started playing Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius.
Brave Exvius was a free-to-play turn-based game that features everything we love about Final Fantasy - magic spells, limit breaks, and Espers. I initially fell in love with its pixel art style but ultimately stayed for the fun combat. I stopped playing for a while and found it difficult to hop on due to the ever-changing meta that is so common with gacha games.
That doesn't mean I stopped loving the lore. I always enjoyed the story of Brave Exvius and kept considering hopping back in, but I was too intimidated by how different it would be when I returned. But now, I'm able to revisit the story - without the gacha elements.
Thank God Final Fantasy Resonance Isn't a Gacha
The best thing about JRPGs is the lore - and this rings true for Brave Exvius, even if it was a mobile gacha. Even when I was bombarded with gacha mechanics and energy meters, I was always in awe of the Lapis narrative arc. It's almost a little embarrassing to say, but Brave Exvius is one of the reasons I fell in love with turn-based JRPGs in the first place.

And in a month, I'll be able to meet Rain, Lasswell, and Fina again with Resonance.
Final Fantasy Resonance releasing as a single-player game feels like a massive win. It proves that underneath all the in-game monetization clutter, Brave Exvius features a genuine, high-stakes fantasy story that's worth revisiting even without the constant reminder to swipe your credit card.
Resonance is a massive step-up from Brave Exvius, since we're leaving the mobile UI menus in the past and actually exploring Lapis in full HD-2D. If this is a dream, someone better pinch me now before I get too disappointed. I'm still in disbelief that the story of Brave Exvius is getting dynamic lighting, a massive overworld, and the classic turn-based combat in an actual standalone game.
I can't wait to experience the nostalgic rush I fell in love with.
I know that Resonance won't be exactly like Brave Exvius, but that's something I appreciate. In fact, I feel like it will probably be better. The "Visions" system featured in Brave Exvius is being reworked for Resonance, but it's being done for the best reason possible. Visions will finally be included to serve the player and not fatten Square Enix's pockets.

Instead of feeling like low-drop-rate banner lures, Visions will actually feel like tactical tools - which is what they are meant to be. I'm counting down the days until I can build my party and equip Visions to trigger Sweeping Staggers without hitting a monetized progression wall.
Final Fantasy Resonance comes out on October 22, 2026. Hopefully, it will capture all the charm of Brave Exvius while also making it a more enjoyable player experience.
