There’s been a lot of unrest recently surrounding the rumored Final Fantasy 9 remake. Square Enix has been dropping plenty of hints and releasing new artwork, getting a lot of fans pumped. Many thought that they saw this game on the Switch 2 direct for a brief minute, before realizing it was actually a Bravely Default remaster.
However, there’s a small chance that we could be seeing this highly anticipated remake sooner than we think. It might be a stretch, but we think a major clue was just dropped in a recent social media exchange between two companies. This could mean nothing, but it could also lead to the biggest thing.
On X, Square Enix shared yet another piece of beautiful Final Fantasy 9 art. Naturally, this led to some fans openly wondering if a remake is going to happen. However, one particular exchange that has fans talking is the official Gamescom X account replying to the art, saying, “a place to call home.”
You don’t see a major company like Gamescom replying like that for no reason, which has us wondering if we’re going to see the remake on this show. Admittedly, this is just speculation and nothing else, but that post does have us thinking. It’s just such a telling reply that the indications for a showcase feel obvious.
Fans have wanted a Final Fantasy 9 remake for the longest time, with many wanting one just as much as the ongoing Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy. Because fans have mixed thoughts on this more action-oriented trilogy, there’s hope that this remake is going to stick with classic turn-based battles. After all, games like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are pretty in right now, and everyone’s pretending like they hate action RPGs, until they find one they like.
Until then, fans at least have a pretty faithful port of Final Fantasy 9 that’s readily available on most modern consoles and PC.
