Halo: Campaign Evolved is far from the proper first impression PlayStation players should’ve gotten of Master Chief’s seminal adventure—the very title that helped Xbox become what it is today. The complete lack of multiplayer in a Halo game is perhaps the most egregious and puzzling decision, but it's one the modding community is already aiming to fix alongside several other much-needed improvements.
Reddit user K3sra is currently working on a project to add custom multiplayer to Campaign Evolved. The plan is ambitious: recreating the original Combat Evolved experience with teams of five facing off across classic maps and modes.
K3sra intends to progressively build out the mod, backed by an extensive roadmap that includes classic Red vs. Blue color schemes, core modes like Slayer and Capture the Flag, iconic maps such as Blood Gulch and Sidewinder, additional gametypes like King of the Hill and Oddball, and a full sandbox rebalance of weapons and vehicles to match the feel of the 2001 original.

Campaign Evolved launched to somewhat lukewarm reviews. While it sits at a respectable 81 on Metacritic, that’s a far cry from the original Combat Evolved, which remains one of the highest-rated games in history at 97.
While this is an unofficial mod, it serves as a stark reminder of what’s missing from the official release. A revamped single-player campaign is welcome, but for many fans, the true heart of Halo will always be hanging out with friends in a snipers-only Blood Gulch lobby.
