It’s been almost a decade since Kojima Productions released Death Stranding, and now Hideo Kojima and his team are gearing up for the release of Death Stranding 2.

A new trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has been dropped, confirming the June release date for later this year. Interestingly, the trailer also featured a bunch of new characters and special cameos from other famous actors—much like the first game.

New Trailer for DS2: On the Beach

The trailer runs for over 10 minutes and gives the best look at the game yet, with new creatures and incoming characters. Check this out:

While KojiPro likes to keep the story vague for their trailers, the game does come with an official synopsis that reads:

“Embark on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA… Sam—with companions by his side—sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: should we have connected?”

The first game’s setting took place in a post-apocalyptic North America, but now it looks like Sam and his team are going to be traveling across the world on a new ship that’s being piloted by Tarman (George Miller/Marty Rhone), with the same goal to connect the world.

Star Wars Jedi and Suicide Squad players will also remember Debra Wilson, who plays a Doctor in the game. It’s implied she’s the one who helps Rainy give birth, and she’s revealed to have two right hands—nothing out of the ordinary for a Kojima game.

For months, the game has confirmed that Elle Fanning (Tomorrow) and Shioli Kutsuna (Rainy) will also be part of the cast, in addition to familiar faces like Fragile (Lea Seydoux). Now, the trailer has confirmed even more cast members.

Who Else is Going to be in the Game?

The trailer starts with a new character named Neill (Luca Marinelli), who looks to be a reluctant government soldier. Neil is also implied to be in a romance with Lucy (Alissa Jung), who could work for the same shady organization.

Though nothing much has been confirmed about Neil, it does look like he will be filling in the role that was Mads Mikkelsen’s in the first game, and he will command a squad of specialized soldiers to stop Sam. Many people have pointed out that Marinelli looks a lot like Solid Snake from Kojima’s Metal Gear franchise, and Kojima himself had said before that he thinks that Marinelli looks a lot like Snake.

Celebrity Cameos

Besides some main players, there’s also a cameo from action star Ma Dong-seok (EternalsTrain to Busan), who looks to be Sam's customer. This is how the previous game also did cameos with Conan O’Brien, Daichi Miura, Junji Ito, Edgar Wright, and many others.

With all of the celebrities Kojima has been sharing photos with on social media, like Jordan Peele and Hunter Schafer, they all may be making cameos in DS2. Fans will just have to wait and see till the game releases to make sure.

Watch for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach when it launches on June 26 for the PS5.
