Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has officially been announced by Studio TRIGGER, meaning chooms everywhere can enjoy the high-quality anime that will inevitably leave them both happy and heartbroken once again. It’s rare to see Studio TRIGGER do a second season for one of their shows, but Night City is an enormous place that’s filled with new stories to tell.

The new series was announced during Anime Expo 2025, with staff confirming that this will be an entirely new tale set in the same universe. Unless there are major surprises stored for fans, it looks like we won’t be seeing any loose threads from David’s tragic tale. We just hope this new show can match the emotional highs of the original Edgerunners, which still chokes up fans to this day.

“David’s story might be over, but there’s plenty more to discover in Night City,” said Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 showrunner Bartosz Sztybor. “And to again have the legendary animation studio TRIGGER along for the ride makes us at CD Projekt RED so excited to introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we’ve done before.”

No release date for Edgerunners 2 has been announced, so fans will have to wait a bit longer before knowing when this comes out. We do wonder if the show will be released in time for the second Cyberpunk game, which is supposedly in production or pre-production. The first game did receive some cosmetics based on TRIGGER’s first Edgerunners anime, so a collab or two would be received well.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 has a lot to live up to, as the original Edgerunners is considered by many to be an incredible show. David's journey in the anime was one filled with triumphs and heartbreak, with many still tearing up over the original show's finale. Certain songs from the show can make fans cry, proving just how powerful those episodes were.

It even led fans to play the game, and that doesn't happen a lot.
