- Quick Answer: No, Crimson Desert does not have a romance or dating system; relationship mechanics are limited to a platonic affinity system for combat and lore benefits.
In Crimson Desert, there is a staggering amount of things that a player can do. Whether it's fishing, gardening, or hunting bad guys, it's clear that the game was meant to be played for endless hours, which is why so many people enjoy it.
I am one of them, and I have certainly been impressed with what I'm allowed to do so far. Yet, for all the things Crimson Desert has in it, it is still lacking something very crucial, and that's a romance system and dating mechanics.
I understand that some would say that in a game that already allows you to do so much, it doesn't really need either, but I believe that not adding them was a huge mistake. While not exactly necessary, they could have gone a long way in enhancing the overall experience.
For those who are wondering how, first, it would have provided more gameplay depth. Make no mistake, its current features and mechanics are already extensive enough to give you countless possibilities, but it never hurts to have more.
If the game had integrated a romance system, I'm sure that developer Pearl Abyss would have created it with a lot of thought in the same way it did with the skill tree, environmental interaction, puzzles, etc. What I mean by that is that dating in the game would have been fun, and we'd likely have been able to do stuff like take people out on dates, pursue different activities with them, or even court them in unique ways.

It was a golden opportunity for Pearl Abyss to give us even more to enjoy, but unfortunately, the developer didn't take it, which is a huge shame. Another reason why a romance system and mechanics would have been a positive addition to the game is that it could have helped players build a better connection with the game.
The map of Crimson Desert is undoubtedly huge, and there are so many towns or settlements for you to discover. When you get to these places, you meet their people, see what their lives are like, and while it's fun to pay attention to the details, at the end of the day, you can barely care about most of the NPCs.
Yes, there are a lot of them that liven up the world with their activities, but you're not really incentivized to care about who they are or what they do. However, if a good chunk of them were romanceable, then that would be a different story entirely.
By making them love interests that you could actively date, you become incentivized to know more about them. You'd think of things like what their favorite items are, what kind of dialogue they could spout, what they do day in and day out, etc. It would make you feel like these NPCs were real people, which is good for immersion.
And if you start caring for one, you'll likely start caring for more to see how differently they all behave, further establishing a connection with the world you're a part of. Because of how immersed a player could have gotten, it would have also helped in extending the game's lifespan, which would have been really good for Pearly Abyss.

Now, the final reason I think it's a crime that Crimson Desert doesn't have a romance system or dating mechanics is that the game has everything needed to make their integration sensible. If we're going to be completely honest, there are many characters in the game that players have likely thought of as beautiful, cool, handsome, and any other positive adjective that could have been used to compliment their looks or personality.
Then there's the trust system, where you'd be able to build a bond with the NPCs by talking to them, giving them gifts, or through quests. Naturally, you'd think that if you were to gain a modest amount of trust, you'd be able to deepen the relationship with a particular character you like, and then perhaps take the connection to something beyond friendship.
Alas, that isn't the case, and I, and likely many others, were left feeling disappointed. So many signs led people to believe dating within the game should be possible, but that clearly isn't the case, which makes it hurt even more. It's baffling that there's no romance at all, and while there may be a reason for it, I strongly believe the decision to leave it out was a mistake.
Again, with all the things that you can do in Crimson Desert, having no romance or dating system of any kind isn't the worst thing, but it could have done so much to make the game better. Perhaps Pearl Abyss will add it in a future update, especially if people become vocal about wanting it to be included, but for now, all we can do is think about what could have been.
