Clair Obscur: Expedition 33takes players on an emotional rollercoaster with its compelling narrative. On top of that, it balances it with the physically tiring yet rewarding gameplay system. The game hides some incredibly tough challenges, including some of the hardest bosses in RPGs, equipped with their skills and attacks. Be wary since this will contain spoilers.

Players will encounter many bosses throughout the main story. However, there are secondary and secret bosses that present an even greater challenge. All of them have a varying degree of difficulty and unique abilities that can make them a nightmare or a breeze to defeat.

What Are The Hardest Bosses To Fight in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?

Our list of hardest Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 bosses include Grosse Tete, Renoir, Painted Love, and more

Considering which bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are the hardest is subjective, and these are the ones that a lot of people found difficult to fight against. Make sure to be well prepared with the best weapons, Pictos, and Luminas before facing these

Grosse Tete

Grosse Tete

I'd consider Grosse Tete as the weakest in this list, but it is still one of the toughest bosses in the game. It's an optional Continent boss that's found outside the Coastal Cave and in the Flying Manor. When I first encountered this enemy, I questioned when it would be my turn. You'd think that it's easy at first, but it adds two attacks during its turn.

I had a hard time parrying and dodging, and ultimately gave up after a few times. I revisited it, just before heading to Lumiere, fully equipped with great Pictos and Luminas such as Cheater and Painted Power (dropped by the Paintress). However, if you're great at parrying and dodging, you can beat it early on since it will self-destruct after completing the turn, which consists of 24 jumps.

Renoir

Renoir and Maelle

I will never forget the welcome party that Renoir threw for Expedition 33, and we'd inevitably have to face him again. You thought you'd only have to face him once, but sike, you fight him on three separate occasions. The first Renoir is doable, but this was, I believe, the first time I encountered someone who can vanish a team member. It can get annoying if you haven't got the timing right yet.

The first time you encounter Renoir is just the warm-up for the second encounter in the Monolith. This time, he has two phases, and he comes with a special pet to help him. His attacks are faster, but not too complicated; still, it took me a few tries.

Finally, you'll be facing the real Renoir in Lumiere as the final boss. His body or form will be the same as the Paintress. His moves aren't that complicated since you've most likely grown accustomed to the parry and dodge system of the game. In normal mode, even if Stendhal was nerfed, you can beat him with Maelle.

Painted Love

Painted Love

What's worse than fighting Aline (Paintress) and Renoir? Both of them tag-teaming the Expedition. Once you have Esquie's flying ability in Act III, you can visit the Endless Tower. This includes numerous stages and trials that have different bosses, and you'll have to reach Stage 11 - Trial 3 to fight Painted Love. Their moves are pretty much what their individual fights had.

Even if you're familiar with their attacks, it might take a few tries before you get the rhythm since a lot of these are fast-paced. You can't even eliminate one of them first to make the fight easier, since they share the same health bar.

To defeat them, you'll need around 24 million damage. If you've gotten some of the best Pictos already, then you wouldn't have a lot of issues going against Painted Love. However, if you're not equipped with the best weapons or skills, then try to evaluate your characters first before heading back for the fight.

Clea

Clea

If you've progressed enough in the story, you already know who Clea is. She is part of the Dessendre family, the sister of Alicia and Verso. I don't recommend going to the Flying Manor where Clea is until you're above Level 80. You'll want the whole Expedition 33 to be ready for Clea.

Clea's quite annoying, especially if you're not that particularly great at parrying or dodging. Whenever you get hit, she will be healed, which can restart your progress if your damage output is too low. Not only that, but she can make your party member disappear too, which to me is the most annoying skill or attack that an enemy in Clair Obscur can do.

Simon

Simon

While many of the characters are tragic in their own way, I believe there's no beating Simon's story, and he will be the hardest boss you'll fight throughout Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. You don't need to defeat Simon to finish the story, as he's an optional boss, but he has good drops. This includes the Simoso, which is a weapon for Verso.

Compared to Grosse Tete and other bosses with continuous attacks, Simon will give your hands and fingers cramps for days. Phase 1 is pretty forgiving, and I say that sparingly. The following two phases were the death of me. His attacks become faster-paced, and I ended up with so many retries because I keep fumbling my parries. However, the satisfaction that you'd get after completing his battle is absolute bliss.
