Sandfall Interactive may be an indie studio, but they have turned heads with their fantastic reveal for the turn-based RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 which is set to launch later this week.

As reviews are about to come out, some reviewers online have already been sharing their takes as far as a month ago. While the official social media account for Clair Obscur promises 30+ hours of content, some reviewers have a more solid number.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Game Length

According to u/IcePopsicleDragon on Reddit, some early players of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 have confirmed that the game has around 60 hours of playable content, and “around 40 hours” for the main campaign.

That pretty much tracks with the original announcement that the main game is expected to have more than 30 hours of content. Here’s the original post from last year:

Not much has been revealed about the game yet, but the lore for Expedition 33 is one right out of any convoluted fantasy game plot.

Dream of a Future

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 takes place in the world of Lumiere where a mythical figure called the Paintress paints a number on a monolith which indicates the age of all the people who are set to die that year.

With the latest number painted being 33, Expedition 33 was formed by the people who were cursed to die so that they could go out to the Paintress’ island and stop her from putting any more curses on the people.

Besides the convoluted fantasy stakes, the game also promises a return to turn-based RPG, but with that, it also has some more modern gameplay elements as compared to just having players scroll through a ‘DVD menu’.

Though Sandfall Interactive may not be a AAA studio, just the visuals and featured gameplay for Clair Obscur are enough to get anyone interested.

The game has managed to nab some great industry talent like Ben Starr (Final Fantasy XVI) and Jennifer English (Baldur’s Gate III). They even managed to get Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings, Andor) and Charlie Cox (Daredevil) to voice characters in the game.

We don’t know what the verdict for Clair Obscur will be yet, but with the promise of 40+ hour gameplay length and the price tag of $50—this could be a new-gen game worth checking out.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is set to launch for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 on April 24.
