In this potential Game of the Year contender, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's combat can be painful in the beginning, as different mechanics per character welcome you. Lune's a powerful and versatile mage of the party, and you can make use of her kit in multiple types of builds depending on your needs.

Lune is an all-rounder: She can be a nurturing healer, providing her best support skills to her teammates, but she can also raise hell on all the Nevrons she encounters. This makes her a valuable asset to any team composition in Clair Obscur.

Understanding Lune's Kit

Before starting on the best builds, understanding Lune's mechanics and skills will be instrumental. As mentioned, she is an elemental mage who generates Stains per attack. Her skills allow her to stack elemental stains, but also consume them for effects such as additional damage.

Lune has five kinds of elemental stains: Earth, Fire, Ice, Light, and Lightning. Each has its corresponding color, but Light stains are different as they can be used regardless of the element required by a specific effect. It's best to take note of these stains and generate them whenever possible to get the most out of her kit.

Best Lune Builds

You can build characters in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in many ways. It can be a bit overwhelming with the amount of weapons, luminas, pictos, and skills that you can equip. Not to mention the attribute system in the game.

However, we're here to guide you through each build to make the experience as straightforward as possible. So without further ado, let's get started!

Healer Build

Weapon

You can either go for Benisim or Potierim for Lune's Healer build weapon choices. These can be found later on in the story, but I believe these are the best weapons if you want to get the most out of Lune's healing abilities:

  • Benisim
    • Element: Earth
    • Attributes focus: Vitality, Defense

You can get the Benisim by fighting and defeating the Chromatic Benisseur in The Continent (though it sucks that there's no minimap to help you navigate). It can also be bought in the Forgotten Battlefield from Gestral Merchant Kasumi.

Benisim's Level 4 passive makes Lune's healing skills cost 1 AP less. This is handy in the beginning since you'll need all the AP you can get. Level 10 also does wonders for this Lune build since it generates 1 Earth stain at the beginning of EACH turn. You can potentially keep spamming the skill Healing Light as it costs 0 AP if you have 2 Earth stains.

Benisim's last passive, once it reaches Level 20, allows Lune to replay immediately after using a healing spell. This has the potential to enable Lune to not only help her teammates but also deal good damage to the enemy.

  • Potierim
    • Element: Ice
    • Attribute focus: Defense, Agility

Another option for Lune is the Potierim, which can be obtained by defeating Bourgeon (boss) in Flying Waters. Though I believe I got this after exploring Yellow Harvest and beating one of those normal Nevrons that has a blue lamp.

This is great for the Healer build as healing skills generate one more Light stain at Level 4, slows enemies when a Light stain is consumed at Level 10, and her basic attack will generate a Light stain at Level 20.

  • Redalim
    • Element: Ice
    • Attribute focus: Defense, Agility

You can opt to use the Redalim when you get it in the Manor Gardens or after fighting Renoir, since its passive effects are the combination of the two previously mentioned weapons.

It generates an additional Light stain when healing is used at Level 4, generates one Ice stain at the beginning of each turn at Level 10, and has the ability to replay instantly when stains are consumed with healing abilities.

Skills

Key skills to include in Lune's Healer build are as follows:

  • Healing Light
  • Rebirth
  • Revitalization

These are all of Lune's healing abilities, and there will be 3 more empty slots, which you can fill with the following:

  • Earlier Acts:
    • Earth: Earth Rising or Rockslide
    • Lightning: Thunderfall or Electrify
    • Fire: Immolation or Wildfire

You can mix and match the skills as long as they generate Earth, Lightning, or Fire stains, as the healing and reviving skills benefit from these the most. For example, you will be able to use Healing Light at no AP costs if you have two Earth (or Light) stains available.

Pictos & Luminas

There are so many Pictos and Luminas in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to choose from, but it's best to get ones that will help with keeping Lune and her teammates alive. Here are some of the key Pictos and Luminas that aid in her support abilities:

  • Energising Start (I to IV) - Adds 1 AP at the start of the battle
  • Protecting Heal - If Lune heals an ally, it also applies Shell
  • Accelerating Heal - Healing an ally also applies Rush
  • Energetic Healer - Get 2 AP when healing an ally (once per turn)
  • Auto Shell - Applies Shell for 3 turns on battle start

You can also choose ones that impact her Burn effect, as many of the other characters, such as Maelle and Sciel, can coordinate their skills with this effect.

Damage Build

Weapons

This Lune build will focus on offensive skills that her kit offers to deal a significant amount of damage. The best weapons are as follows:

  • Betelim
    • Element: Earth
    • Attribute focus: Vitality, Agility

The Betelim is an excellent option. If I remember correctly, I was able to get it around Act II. It's Level 4 passive increases damage by 20%, which can stack up to 5 times, but you'll need to focus on generating and using stains. Level 10 gives 2 random stains on turn start if there aren't any stains. At Level 20, it provides 1 AP when stains are used. An alternative to this is the Kralim.

  • Choralim
    • Element: Fire
    • Attribute focus: Defense, Agility

Once you have it, you may also change to the Choralim. The weapon's 100% crit chance when 4 stains are active at Level 4 is an amazing passive. At Level 10, it also increases damage by 20% for each turn where Lune doesn't take damage. Crit attacks apply Burn at Level 20.

Skills

Focus on highly damaging skills in Lune's kit. It's vital to get the most out of her stains and the passives of her weapon. I'd recommend the following skills, but you can mix and match them depending on the elements.

  • Elemental Trick
  • Elemental Genesis

These two skills are devastating combos, especially once you have the Choralim. You'll need to hit crits for Elemental Trick, so it's best to invest in some Luck as well. Elemental Genesis basically nukes the enemies.

Other than these two, you can choose to fill the remaining slots with four different elemental skills (Ice, Fire, Earth, and Lightning). It's usually the higher-tier elemental abilities, such as Hell and Typhoon.

Pictos & Luminas

It's best to get damage-enhancing Pictos and Luminas, but also include ones that generate AP, since most of Lune's high-damage skills use a lot of AP.

  • Energising Start (I to IV) - Gives AP on battle start
  • Energising Turn - Gives AP on turn start
  • Inverted Affinity (Note: Cannot be healed when Inverted) - Inverted for 3 turns, 50% increased damage
  • Glass Canon - Deal 25% more damage, but also take 25% more damage
  • Cheater - Play twice in a row

You can include defensive Pictos and Luminas, such as SOS Shell and Sweet Kill, for some sustainability without sacrificing any skill slot for heals.
