Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an amazing turn-based role-playing game that is comparable to Final Fantasy. It will keep you on your toes as you face a lot of hostile Nevrons while traversing the world. You'll need the best attributes for each character as you go up against opponents of varying difficulty.
Players consider different things when planning the best way to distribute their character's stats. This is no different in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, as having optimal attributes will help make battles easier.
With all of that in mind, let's take a look at the attributes available to upgrade and which ones are the best for each character in the game.
What Attributes Can You Upgrade?
There are five attributes in the game that you can assign points to as you level up your characters. These have specific effects, and leveling up certain attributes per character can give you an advantage against the enemies.
- Vitality: Raises health (HP)
- Might: Raises overall attack
- Agility: Allows your characters to be first in the turn order, potentially, and may have more turns
- Defense: Allows characters to take less damage from enemy attacks
- Luck: Increases critical hit chance
Best Attributes for Each Character
Players have a lot of flexibility and freedom in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 regarding builds. Thankfully, the game provides Recoats, which allow you to regain all the points you've already assigned, so you can start fresh—a process known as respecialization or "respec" in RPGs.
These stats are generally best for the characters, but other factors, such as their weapons, change which ones scale better. This also doesn't mean you should allocate ALL skill points to these attributes, but instead stats to boost more than others.
Gustave
Best Attributes Allocation: Luck and Might
Gustave's best attributes to focus on are Luck and Might, especially the former. He possesses various skills that hit multiple times, such as Strike Storm and Lumière Assault, increasing the likelihood of landing critical hits. I also put some of his points to Might to improve the overall damage output without relying too much on crit chances.
Lune
Best Attributes Allocation: (Healer build) Defense and Vitality, (Hybrid build) Might and Defense, (Damage build) Might, Agility, and Luck
Lune is a versatile mage in Expedition 33 whose kit can be used in many ways. If you're struggling with the QTEs or want a safety net, utilizing Lune as your designated healer is best. Other characters also have healing abilities, but these slots can be used to equip damage skills instead. Lune possesses great healing and revival skills that aid the team. Keeping her defense and HP up will increase her chances of survival during the fights.
Having a hybrid build isn't so bad, either. With Might and Defense, she can deal a decent amount of damage while simultaneously taking the hard hits from enemies and helping out her team.
If you've already learned how to dodge, parry, and jump at the right moments, then it may be time to use the damage build for Lune to deal devastating damage to enemies. Allocate your points to her Might, Agility, and Luck attributes. Some of her skills, like Thunderfall and Lightning Dance, utilize critical hits to do additional hits.
Maelle
Best Attributes Allocation: Agility, Luck, and Might
One of the best damage dealers in Expedition 33 is Maelle (voiced by Jennifer English), and there is no doubt about it. While it's best to focus mainly on attributes that affect her attack damage, it's wise to put in Agility to have her turn first and possibly increase the times you get a turn. She has skills that can inflict disadvantages on enemies, so it will be helpful to have her turn first.
However, as mentioned earlier, it is also best to consider your weapon choice. Through my playthrough, I've mainly used Medalum for her when I got it during the Arena fight, meaning her attributes scaled when I assigned points to her Agility and Defense.
Monoco
Best Attributes Allocation: Agility and Defense
Monoco is a Gestral that's more of a wildcard in Clair Obscur, but it may be best to use him as a support. This is why putting attribute points into his Agility and Defense would be better. However, there are builds such as using the Joyaru as a weapon, which allows him to begin with Almighty Mask. This will enable him to deal max damage on the get-go.
Sciel
Best Attributes Allocation: Might and Luck
Sciel is another great damage dealer in Expedition 33, but can be a bit more situational than Maelle. I've included her in my team right after getting her, and she has been excellent at dealing massive amounts of damage. Naturally, putting in attribute points to her Might and Luck allows you to take advantage of her kit due to her multiple-hit skills.
Based on experience, she does massive damage as long as you know how to use Foretell. During my first playthrough, I was stunned by how much her crit rate and damage scales, too.
Verso
Best Attributes Allocation: Agility, Vitality, and Luck
Verso is a character who relies heavily on multi-hit attacks, dodges, and parries to rank up his Perfection to S, as aligned with his skills. Due to this, you'll benefit significantly from putting in attribute points to his Agility to take first turns and possibly get more turns in the attack order. Again, having Vitality will help keep him alive if you struggle with parries or dodges. Consider distributing points to his luck due to his multi-hit attacks for a higher critical hit chance.
