Scopely is best known as the company behind the mobile game Monopoly GO and the studio that has just bought Niantic, the developers behind the hit AR game Pokemon GO.
While fans are waiting for Scopely to do some kind of big update with Pokemon, it looks like they’re teaming up with another studio that is behind some of the biggest IP in gaming—CD Projekt Red.
CDPR x Scopely
According to VGC, a recent CDPR earnings call revealed that there was going to be a collaboration between Scopely and the studio. It hasn’t been mentioned which IP the game will use, but fans are almost sure that it would have something to do with either The Witcher or Cyberpunk 2077.
With the physical board game of Monopoly already having multiple themed kits from Harry Potter to Star Wars, it’s possible that Monopoly Go could also just be getting themed versions inspired by either Witcher or Cyberpunk.
With Cyberpunk’s first-person shooter format, it’s possible that they could develop an AR version of the game that could be played on people’s phones. They could easily lean in on the hacker aspect of Cyberpunk and have players walk around and try to hack specific areas, similar to how Pokemon GO players hunt for Pokemon—what if they populate specific areas with gang members and players need to hack them to take them down?
The Witcher on Mobile
With The Witcher 4 underway, it’s possible that they could also be working on a Witcher collaboration. There is already a mobile version of the card game Gwent, so it’s possible that whatever Scopely is working on could be something else.
They could easily take the Pokemon GO format and have players lead the role of a Witcher on the hunt for different monsters, but it might be a big ask for players to walk around and do Witcher missions. Part of Pokemon GO’s appeal is that it’s for a demographic that hasn’t reached the point of getting back pain at the slightest of movements.
What’s in Store for the Future?
For now, both Scopely and CDPR are busy working on some big releases. CDPR has their follow-up to the highly successful The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, and Scopely has just made a billion-dollar purchase with Niantic—and fans are expecting some kind of big shakeup with Pokemon GO.
It’s still unclear what both studios are planning for their collaboration, but it’s possible that it won’t be that huge of a project, considering that they both have other things to prioritize in their own lanes.
Hopefully fans will get an update soon, and for something that they don’t have to wait more than a year to find out about.
CDPR and Scopely’s collaboration hasn’t been officially revealed yet, but The Witcher 4 is expected to be released soon for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
