Capcom has been making a lot of bank with their Resident Evil remake games, but they’ve also been sure to keep things fresh with the mainline entries. RE Village came out back in 2021, but some believe that Capcom could be teasing the release of Resident Evil 9 soon.
In a recent video celebrating 10 million copies sold for Resident Evil 4, some fans are convinced that there is a teaser for RE9 for those with eyes to see.
Resident Evil 9 Teased?
Capcom just released a video celebrating 10 million copies sold, and in true cheesy Resident Evil fashion, it has a bunch of the zombie people putting on party hats and being festive. What’s interesting is the last part of the video has a sign picket with “Thank you for playing” on it, and some fans think that it could be a tease for Resident Evil 9 if you put the image on its side.
Admittedly, there’s some tin foil hat reasoning to think that the image is making a tease for RE IX, but more subtle messaging has been spotted in marketing before. With the last mainline entry coming out in 2021, it’s the right time for Capcom to reveal that Resident Evil 9 could be coming soon enough.
What to Expect from Resident Evil 9
Though the new batch of RE games had Ethan Winters as the protagonist, his story seems to have been closed with Resident Evil Village. Now it looks like the next protagonist (or possibly antagonist) is going to be Ethan’s daughter Rose—who teases that she has powers that Chris doesn’t even know about.
As far as the series is concerned though, fans should always expect Resident Evil to be a landmark in survival horror, and besides monsters and zombies, there’s always going to be a house full of puzzles and traps for players to figure out.
I’m just hoping they come up with the next Lady Dimitrescu character, because it feels like her introduction into pop-culture marked a cultural reset—even for non-Resident Evil players.
Resident Evil 9 hasn’t been officially announced, but their last entry RE 4 is now available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 4|5.
