Update: A few hours after the original leak was released, CharlieIntel stated that the time period in the leak is false. The news account on X refuted the late 90s/early 2000s setting and said that the new game will be set in "the modern era."

Original report: Although the spotlight is on Infinity Ward's next game, with recent rumors pointing out that it could be similar to MWII (2022), a new leak about Call of Duty 2027 has surfaced, revealing a few details of the game at its current state.

The information comes from well-known leaker TheGhostOfHope, who revealed that the 2027 title is set to be a brand-new subfranchise. The story is reportedly set in the late 90s/early 2000s and features original characters.

As you may know, Sledgehammer Games is in charge of the new title, the same studio behind Advanced Warfare, Call of Duty: WW2, Vanguard, and Call of Duty MWIII (2023).

The leaker also revealed that Omnimovement without tactical sprint is being considered for the game's movement system. Zombies are not planned to return, and the developers are discussing whether or not to include the Pick-10 create-a-class system for multiplayer, which became a fan favorite with Black Ops 2.

Lastly, the report mentions that Get High, the parkour mode introduced in Modern Warfare III (2023), is also planned to return, confirming his report from July 2025. Interestingly enough, the leaker mentioned in that report that this game's gameplay could lean on some martial arts mechanics.

This is not an uncharted time period for the franchise, as the story of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare takes place mostly in the mid-2000s. However, this time period is not considered modern anymore, as it was around two decades ago.

We can only wait for more information in the coming months as the development process for this new title continues, and more features are consolidated within the studio. In the meantime, you can check out the recent rumor about Modern Warfare 4 here.
