Bungie finally unveiled gameplay for the return of Marathon. The developers also revealed the extraction shooter will launch on September 23.

The initial teaser showcased the intensity of its PvP gameplay and some of the weapons players will be able to use. Of course, runner abilities were shown off. Bungie confirmed that there will be a total of six different classes when the game releases.

Marathon is the studio's first title outside the Destiny franchise. The Halo creators became popular for their Marathon trilogy back in the 90s, bringing many of those Sci-Fi elements to other franchises like Halo and Destiny.

Fans will be hoping Marathon delivers on its promise of tight, precise gunplay, replayability, and has a decent monetization system. Especially those who feel Destiny 2 has been cast aside in favor of this new project and return of a beloved IP.

If you're looking to play Marathon early, Bungie did confirm a Closed Alpha test period is coming in the near future, urging players to join the official Marathon Discord for more information in the coming days.

Bungie's Marathon looks incredible

While it might seem ill-timed with the amount of competition in the market for PvP shooters, with some high-profile flops like Concord happening just last year, Bungie has the pedigree and a dedicated fanbase that enjoys some best-in-class gunplay that will certainly give Marathon a shot.

As for the pricing, it wasn't mentioned if Marathon was going to be a free-to-play title or whether players would have to pay for the experience upfront. In any case, it shouldn't be long before Bungie gives fans pricing details ahead of Marathon's release.

As mentioned, Marathon is coming out on September 23. It will be available on PC, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5. Bungie has confirmed you won't need a PSN account to play on platforms outside of Sony's.
