  • Quick Answer: This article details the resolution of the $200 million lawsuit filed by former Bungie developer Christopher Barrett against the studio and Sony.

Former Bungie developer Christopher Barrett has shared that he has successfully reached an agreement with the studio and Sony following a $200 million lawsuit.

Barrett, who worked at Bungie for almost 25 years, employed from 1999 to 2024, will have his name added to Marathon’s credits. No information regarding any other form of compensation was shared, but Barrett stated he was happy with the resolution.

As mentioned, Chris Barrett had his case dismissed back in December 2025 after filing it in front of the wrong court. The lawsuit resurfaced just a month later, in January, with Barrett looking for compensation as he claimed Bungie fired him unjustly in order to avoid paying him millions in equity and other benefits.

It’s definitely a tumultuous time at Bungie, as dealing with this lawsuit is only a fraction of the issues they’ve had to deal with. These include having to officially end Destiny 2 content, massive layoffs hitting the company, and an underperforming release in Marathon.

Barrett was owed at least $50 million in payout bonuses. As stated, no information about what sort of compensation he ended up receiving; however, for him to say he’s happy with the resolution, it likely means a hefty sum was handed by Sony and Bungie.
