There’s an interesting development in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, as one dataminer has uncovered a hidden ‘Multiplayer’ mode within the game files.
According to the leaker, the bootstrap file references a few developer test maps labeled for Multiplayer and PvP, suggesting that Ubisoft may have more in store for its latest Assassin’s Creed entry.
While everything remains speculation for now, the mere indication that Ubisoft is planning something new for Naoe and Yasuke’s story suggests Shadows has a broader roadmap ahead.
This supposed multiplayer mode could potentially tie into Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ diegetic Animus Hub, or even Assassin’s Creed Infinity. The new menu and UI structure compiles all Assassin’s Creed titles into a single ‘launcher,’ allowing players to easily jump between different settings. While this system is still limited at the moment, it clearly holds promise, and what better way to expand on it than with a ‘Multiplayer PvP’ mode?
Some might speculate that this Multiplayer Mode is connected to the other rumored online Assassin’s Creed title, Assassin’s Creed Invictus, but sources suggest they are separate projects. Unless, of course, Ubisoft decides to merge its upcoming Fall Guys-style Assassin’s Creed game into Shadows, which, while unlikely, isn’t impossible.
This is shaping up to be a big week for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, as Ubisoft is set to unveil the game’s roadmap for the coming months. Just a few hours from now, the studio will reveal what’s next for the series, possibly including new details on the Claws of Awaji DLC, and maybe even a hint at this rumored multiplayer mode.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is already becoming one of the year’s biggest titles, sharing the same spotlight as Monster Hunter Wilds and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. With 3 million players since launch, it’s clear that Naoe and Yasuke’s journey through Feudal Japan has struck a chord with fans.
