Respawn has been hit with more layoffs and canceled projects. The developers will remain focused on improving the battle royale Apex Legends and working on the next entry in the Star Wars: Jedi franchise.

According to Respawn via social media, two "incubation projects" (most likely referring to ideas in the very early stages of conception) have been canned. On top of that members of both the Apex Legends and Star Wars: Jedi teams have been laid off.

The exact number of people impacted by the layoffs was not revealed. However, Respawn stated they are offering "meaningful support" to those affected as well as the opportunity to explore new opportunities within EA.

Even amid the success of Star Wars: Jedi and solid consistent performance by Apex Legends in an overcrowded free-to-play market, Respawn has failed to expand its portfolio with several dead projects in recent years.

Rumblings of Titanfall 3 have been constantly popping up on social media for what seems to be years at this point. Earlier this year, Respawn announced the cancelation of a previous incubation project that was set to be a multiplayer FPS.

A new report by Jason Schrier states that one of the canned projects was indeed Titanfall-related. It was internally known as R7, an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe.

Star Wars: Jedi is successful, but not enough

Going back to 2024, the developers also announced the cancelation of a Mandalorian first-person game. The title was originally announced in 2022 as part of a slew of new Star Wars-related projects Respawn would be overseeing.

Out of those, the strategy game developed by Bit Reactor, Star Wars: Zero Company, is one that will hopefully see the light of day after being officially revealed earlier this year.
