Skydance Games announced on its social media channels that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has been officially delayed until early 2026.

The developers stated that the delay is a necessary step to polish the game and ensure players receive the best possible experience.

This comes as disappointing news for fans eagerly anticipating Amy Hennig’s next project. Hennig, best known for creating and writing the first three Uncharted titles, left Naughty Dog in 2014. Now, she turns her attention to the Marvel universe, venturing into the comic book-to-video game space with Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, the debut project of the newly co-founded Skydance Games.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is an action-adventure title that transports players back to the year 1943, allowing them to step into the shoes of iconic superhero mantles, including a World War II-era Black Panther. The game features an ensemble cast of four characters: Steve Rogers, Azzuri (the Black Panther of the era), Gabriel Jones, and Nanali, the leader of the Wakandan spy network.

While concrete details about its story and gameplay remain scarce, we do know that it is set in Nazi-occupied Paris during World War II. So far, only a cinematic trailer, rendered in impressive Unreal Engine 5 detail, has been shown. The tone appears darker and grittier than recent Marvel games like Guardians of the Galaxy or Marvel Rivals.

Speculation is circulating within the fanbase. Some believe the game might adopt a format similar to X-Men Legends or Marvel Ultimate Alliance, where players can switch between characters on the fly. Others think it could follow the structure of Square Enix’s Avengers, focusing on individual stats and character-specific missions throughout WWII.

It’s also worth noting that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is entirely separate from Cliffhanger Games’ upcoming Black Panther title. The latter is said to draw inspiration from the Batman: Arkham series, with an emphasis on melee combat and open-world exploration. By contrast, Rise of Hydra may offer a more linear, narrative-driven experience.

Originally slated for a 2025 release, the game’s launch is now expected in early 2026. While the wait is longer, fans can take comfort in knowing the extra time is being used to craft something truly compelling.
