Details of Cliffhanger Games’ upcoming Black Panther game appear to have leaked online, revealing various potential features. According to the leak, players can choose from multiple Black Panthers, engage in close-range African martial arts combat, and have an over-the-shoulder perspective, among other features.

First announced in July 2023, Cliffhanger Games’ Black Panther is an original single-player action-adventure game focused on Marvel’s legendary African superhero. After their announcement, Cliffhanger Games just went radio silent… until now.

Call of Duty leaker and insider @TheGhostOfHope shared the latest scoop on X (formerly Twitter). Here’s a breakdown of the leaked details and my thoughts on each.

Multiple Playable Characters

This Black Panther game seems to give players more agency, allowing them to pick from multiple Black Panthers throughout the series' history. Characters like T’Challa, M’Baku, Azari, Shuri, and Killmonger are rumored to be playable, each with distinct move sets.

Each character will also have unique weapons, armor, and gadgets. Shuri may come with advanced high-tech weaponry, while M’Baku could rely more on brute strength and the fighting style of the Jabari tribe. As for T’Challa, we can expect his traditional arsenal, including his signature Black Panther claws and Vibranium suit. Of course, these are all just speculation.

African Martial Arts Combat

The leak doesn’t go into detail about the combat system but states that it "intends to replicate authentic African martial arts mixed with [superhuman abilities] and [technology.]"

This fusion of traditional combat with futuristic Wakandan technology is exactly what we’d hope for in a Black Panther game.

One confirmed detail about the gameplay is its over-the-shoulder perspective, similar to God of War by Sony Santa Monica or modern Resident Evil titles by Capcom. This could make combat and exploration feel more immersive and personal.

While the exact gameplay mechanics remain unclear, we might see something reminiscent of Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham series or the modern God of War games.

Exploration and Story

This Black Panther game appears to take a more role-playing approach to storytelling. The narrative will react to player choices and actions, shaping missions and character dynamics. Given that multiple Black Panthers are playable, this level of agency makes sense.

Exploration is also a key feature, allowing players to roam through cities — possibly Wakanda’s futuristic metropolis — and venture into African savannahs, where they may encounter unique cultures and characters.

If executed well, this could open up new storytelling opportunities, much like The Witcher III: Wild Hunt by CD Projekt Red. However, the leak doesn’t specify whether the game will be fully open-world or more linear in design. (My money’s on a more linear design.)

The game is still in development, so we’ll unlikely see it anytime soon.

As with all leaks, take this information with a grain of salt. Cliffhanger Games could intentionally mislead leakers, similar to what NetEase did with its Marvel Rivals leaks.
