We still don’t know a lot about Kingdom Hearts 4, but Square Enix cutting the mobile game and releasing new screenshots has fans talking. The game looks next-gen, and fans are already speculating what Disney worlds will appear. Still, some fans are choosing to keep their hearts with them since they had mixed opinions about the third game.
Because of that, we’ve decided to list what features we want to see return in Kingdom Hearts 4, and what should be avoided entirely. This series has been going on for a while now, and there have been various mechanics that fans enjoyed and hated equally. Regardless, we think that the fourth game should mix up some mechanics and blend them into something unique.
So here are some features that Kingdom Hearts 4 should keep and leave from other games.
Keep: Weapon Enhancement
One of the best parts of Kingdom Hearts 3 was powering up whichever Keyblade you wanted. While some of them were stronger than others, you could realistically level up the very first one and bring it to the final boss. It’s a feature that was so good, Square Enix put it in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
Fans who love the original Keyblade or will enjoy the designs of various others will want this feature to keep them strong. This gives players some freedom in how they play, which is always appreciated. Hopefully, they don’t end up locking some of them behind DLC like last time, even if they didn’t really make an impact overall.
Don’t Keep: Disney Ride Summons
This series isn’t exactly known for its difficulty, and we’re sure Kingdom Hearts 4 will be a pretty breeze experience. Even with that, Disney and Square Enix should avoid putting in those Disney Ride Summons. First shown in the third game, this feature made everything too easy and some players even opted not to use them for an extra challenge.
Even diehard defenders of the third game, like myself, do not like these Disney Ride Summons. Having these made the bosses ridiculously easy, so we hope they aren’t around. We’ll take those regular Disney summons over the rides any day.
Keep: Command Deck
First appearing in Birth by Sleep and being brought back for Dream Drop Distance, the Command Deck is a pretty underrated feature in the Kingdom Hearts series. Unlike the convoluted Chain of Memories, this just lets you choose which commands you want to have when fighting. You’ll still keep regular attacks and dodges, but players will have to choose their spells, special attacks, items, and more.
This once again adds more customization to a series that’s often accused of being pretty linear and combat-heavy. Some newer players might be intimidated by these options, but they can get used to this feature after some time. Hopefully, Square Enix can find a way to make this feel more unique.
Don’t Keep: Winnie the Pooh Levels
Hear us out.
We know most people consider the levels with Pooh harmless, and if Kingdom Hearts 4 can use this well, then they should bring it back. But, based on how Pooh was used in the third game, it might be better if this world were left off entirely.
For those who don’t remember, Pooh’s level was mostly meaningless mini-games that would have to be repeated before a cutscene played. That’s not entirely bad, but the story revolved around Pooh and Sora’s bond crumbling for no reason. If they do bring back Pooh, it has to be better than that.
Keep: DLC Boss Rush
Square Enix has had a habit of saving the Boss Rush in a Kingdom Hearts game for their Final Mix re-release. That trend broke with Kingdom Hearts 3, which added DLC for the very first time. While a bit overpriced, the DLC did give players an amazing Boss Rush with enhanced versions of the Organization to fight, and that should return in Kingdom Hearts 4.
Granted, we’d rather this was a post-game challenge anyone could unlock through beating the base game, but times have changed. At the least, players don’t have to buy an entirely new game for some extra content.
Those are the features we want to see kept and left out in Kingdom Hearts 4. Let us know what you want kept and removed in this game through social media.
