I wrote an article about enjoying Marvel Rivals in unranked play and I stand by it. Playing as your favorite Marvel heroes and villains while blasting other players is a riot, especially without the pressure of losing your rank. This is the way I recommend curious players to play, at least until they want more competition.
Unfortunately, after a streak of bad matches in Quick Play, I finally decided to play Marvel Rivals on Ranked. Not because I want to fight the best players out there, but to avoid teaming with the worst, who don’t know how to win.
Apologies if this sounds like gate-keeping, but Quick Play fans should at least try to win these matches, even if it’s just for fun.
Just to be clear, I’m claiming to be the best Rivals player ever, or anything like that. Like most people, I want to play the game with my favorites like Emma Frost, Mr. Fantastic, or Luna Snow. Playing as these comic characters with their stylized designs is still my main reason for doing Galacta’s bidding on the Steam Deck.
So I’m not judging anyone by their ability. Instead, I need to play with others who know what they’re doing.
Nothing more frustrating than playing a game of Marvel Rivals and being the only player who knows how to win. Sure, killing other players is cool, but we also need to stop that vehicle or secure an area. Unfortunately, Quick Play has a lot of people who just want to blast people as The Punisher and Thor, while not doing the bare minimum.
It hurts to write this, but these players need to get good. Shooting the enemy isn’t enough; you have to move with the analog stick, too. Healing would also be nice, especially when trying to gain control of the game.
Multiplayer games aren’t my thing, but working with your team should be the main priority when picking up Marvel Rivals. This is rich coming from someone who likes to bring up Emma Frost’s thighs and Luna Snow’s shorts, but I’m begging these players to think while playing. We don’t need to orchestrate a master plan to beat everyone, just join me when heading to an area or vehicle.
Rivals is still really fun to play, and that gameplay loop continues to be addictive. The sound effects are underrated, too, since hearing those attacks hit opponents is instant melatonin. Sadly, I want to play with competent players, and they aren’t always in Quick Play.
To be clear, this comes from a Level 3 Bronze Marvel Rivals player. Don’t take this too seriously. But also, you have to TRY winning games. Trying to win adds to the fun, do it sometime.
