For those living under a submarine rock, Fortnite has struck gold with its Sidekick update from October 2025. With the overwhelming reception of beloved characters like Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants and Marvel’s Baby Groot, it is clear the direction Epic Games is going to take for this cosmetic.
What was once thought to be a bad idea has now opened the field for collaboration, with possibilities as far as the imagination goes. Characters from franchises that were once deemed too family-friendly to hold a gun or too short for the average Fortnite skin height are now fair game, which leaves us wondering, who’s next?
We know that when it comes to Fortnite, nothing is off limits. So, as we wait for Patrick Star to join his best friend, here are four Sidekicks we can’t wait to see on the Fortnite Shop:
1. Sonic, Shadow, and More SEGA Sidekicks
The world’s most famous hedgehog duo has been expected to ride the Battle Bus since the early days of Fortnite. While an iteration of the iconic red shoes has hit our locker, the job’s not unfinished until we see Sonic, Shadow, and company join our hectic adventures.

The height disparity left players wondering how to stretch the iconic SEGA characters to fit Fortnite's proportions for years. Well, stretch them no more, as the Sidekick limitations are the perfect excuse to bring our favorite characters to Fortnite life.
Drops can be in batches of Heroes, Anti-heroes, and even Chaos in different colors, allowing everyone to join the action gradually. Whether it is to promote Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds or the upcoming Sonic 4 movie release, Shadow will feel right at home around guns and gunshots. Gamers yearn for 2005… give it to them, SEGA.
2. Star Wars’ BB-8 and Baby Yoda
Insisting on their height, Sidekicks thrive off the player’s insistence on a specific IP and the likability of specific, smaller-sized characters. Enter one of the most well-rounded Fortnite collaborations ever, Star Wars.

Imagine shooting and looting across the map as BB-8 and Baby Yoda stroll along for the battle, chirping and hollering in excitement and awe. It’s really incredible how reactive and expressive these companions can be, so including two of the most popular characters in the last decade is a no-brainer for me.
I would even go as far as to include R2D2 since it’s the original Star Wars companion. Seeing how SpongeBob got a height reduction to fit into a Sidekick render, I really can’t see why not. Or as R2D2 would say, “bleep, bloop, blop, bleep.” Right on, man.
3. Labubus’ Fortnite Debut
Look, you don’t have to like them; you have to expect them. There’s no denying Labubus’ popularity, and with the trinket mentality in mind, it wouldn’t be that surprising to see them debut in Fortnite as Sidekicks in 2026.
Epic Games has really gone above and beyond in bringing collaborations for all target audiences, so if this were to be the case, expect an influx of first-timers for one of the hottest commodities in recent memory.

Especially if Fortnite makes them color-customizable or accessory-based, giving Epic more revenue options and more variety for gamers. It’d be pretty sick to match your in-game Labubu to your real-life keychain. Not even joking, it's lowkey cool.
4. Your Favorite Pokemon Starter
The chibi Sidekicks formula is perfect for Nintendo. It keeps them out of harm’s way and as far away from the guns as possible. Whilst Fortnite does a pretty good job of keeping its product squeaky clean, excluding blood and death and replacing them with particles and elimination holograms, the latter has been one of the main reasons big IPs are hesitant to hop on the Battle Bus.

Now, what seemed impossible is now closer to reality than ever, all thanks to the Sidekicks. Acting exclusively as cheerleaders away from the action, Pokemon could finally make its way to Fortnite. While kicking off the collaboration with Pikachus is the natural route, the good stuff would come when each generation’s starters hit the shop in waves. Just imagine.
The surge in returning and even new players would be beyond comprehension, comparable only to pandemic and OG Season numbers. Even if Nintendo doesn’t pull the trigger, maybe we’ll be accommodated with customizable-from-scratch good old Mii’s. Or maybe Sidekicks are another feature that makes Nintendo fans delulu about there ever being an IP in Fortnite. Potato, potahto.
