In Monster Hunter Wilds, the weather isn't just for atmosphere — it’s an integral part of the game’s seamless open world. The game features a cyclical weather system with three main phases:

  • Fallow – A desolate period with minimal wildlife and barren wastelands.
  • Inclemency – Unpredictable weather phenomena vary by biome, bringing anything from sandstorms to heavy downpours.
  • Plenty – A season of abundance where life flourishes, and the sun gleams over the landscape.

After Plenty, the cycle resets and begins again.

This has led many players to wonder: instead of waiting for the natural cycle to happen, is there a way to change the weather? The answer is yes.

So here's how to change the weather in Monster Hunter Wilds:

1. You Can Only Change It in High Rank

Before you get too excited, know that changing the weather isn’t possible during the early story modes. The game locks its weather cycle behind narrative progression.

To unlock weather control, you must advance through the story and reach High Rank — achieved after defeating Nu Udra, the Apex of the Oilwell Basin.

2. Rest Inside Base Camp or Pop-Up Camps

Once you’ve reached High Rank, changing the weather becomes a breeze. Simply enter a pop-up camp or any nearby camp and select the Rest option.

There’s no in-game explanation for how this works, but somehow, resting allows you to adjust the time of day and the weather at will — almost like playing god from the comfort of your tent.

3. Make Sure You Have 300 Guild Points

Weather control isn’t free, as that would make the game too easy and players would potentially abuse it if it was. Changing the weather requires 300 Guild Points — the green currency you accumulate from completing quests and gathering resources.

Don’t worry about running out — by the time you reach High Rank, you’ll likely have thousands of Guild Points unless you’ve been spending them all on the game’s Argosy.

Why Changing the Weather Matters

Adjusting the weather in Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t just cosmetic — it influences monster spawns and can attract more powerful creatures during Inclemency, making it ideal for farming rare materials and increasing your Hunter Rank.
