Super Smash Bros. is arguably one of Nintendo's most recognized series of all time. Each entry has something unique, enough so that even the older ones can still provide enjoyable experiences to the modern generation of gamers when played. But out of all of them, many would say that Super Smash Bros. Melee is the one that stands out from the rest.

Both casual and competitive players can enjoy the game, and it also has enough content for anyone to spend countless hours, despite being over two decades old. With the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack bundle being updated to allow its buyers to play GameCube games, there's a chance we could see Super Smash Bros. Melee make another comeback, much to the delight of its longtime fans.

Aside from being a potential addition that veterans can get excited over, it can also be seen as a gateway to introducing the classic Nintendo game to a new generation. This is likely something that many Melee fans would want, as it can breathe new life into its scene, which it deserves for being so much fun and relevant for so long.

Currently, the only way to play the game is via a GameCube, early versions of the Nintendo Wii, or through third-party applications. While some may be curious enough to go through the hassle of acquiring or installing them to play Melee, most would rather opt for the entries that are much easier to access, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

But by putting the game on Nintendo Switch Online, there should no longer be any issues regarding accessibility. All one would have to do is open the GameCube Nintendo Classics app, select Super Smash Bros. Melee, and then start playing, thus introducing it to a new wave of potential fans. It must also be considered that many people nowadays have a Nintendo Switch 2 and its predecessor, making it even easier for the game to be enjoyed by the modern generation.

While it would mean being required to subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, the extra cost likely wouldn't deter people from doing so to try Melee, especially since it also provides many other titles to enjoy.

Another reason why it would be worth getting and generating new fans is that it officially provides the game with online capabilities. While Super Smash Bros. Melee is a great game, its one flaw is that its multiplayer can only be enjoyed if people are physically available to play it, barring a few third-party applications that alleviate the issue but are a hassle to install.

It is the reason why some have been deterred from trying it, even if they really wanted to. However, by adding Melee to the Nintendo GameCube - Nintendo Classics application, it should no longer be an issue. People can now challenge anyone from the comfort of their own homes or from wherever they are, as long as they have a stable internet connection, becoming a great incentive for them to try out a game whose defining multiplayer feature was once limited.

Given how much adding Super Smash Bros. Melee to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription can do for the game, the series, and its fans, perhaps Nintendo should consider the move. Hopefully, the day arrives when it happens, as the game has made it clear that it has what's needed to attract the modern generation of players and remain relevant and popular, and it should be allowed to do so.
