Marvel Rivals’ latest update has brought in a fresh wave of content, including Season 4’s brand-new hero, Angela. This fallen angel is a Marvel Comics icon known for her towering stature and her history as both an ally and enemy to Spawn. In Marvel Rivals, she’s a Vanguard who can fly, and with her godlike Ichors, she wields multiple weapons on the battlefield.
With her spear, she can soar into the air and charge enemies, poking them and even sending them flying. Her axes are deadly close-range tools meant to dismantle squishier targets, while her shield acts as an unstoppable bulwark that powers up her damage with every hit it absorbs.
However, while she has an interesting kit on paper, she is far from the best new addition compared to someone like Emma Frost. Angela has some strong uses, but she feels like wasted potential, and provides a clear sign that Marvel Rivals has been losing polish over the past few seasons.
Janky Movement

One of the first issues I noticed is how awkward Angela’s movement feels. Flying doesn’t happen instantly, and switching between axe and spear mode has too much buffer time to be effective. For a hero designed to be on the frontlines, her low survival rate makes her viability questionable. In higher elo, particularly Diamond and above, she’s often seen as a throw pick.
Low Damage

Another major downside is her surprisingly low damage output. Compare her to heroes like Doctor Strange and Magneto, who can poke from range and deal tremendous damage. Angela, on the other hand, has to close the gap with her spear, and whenever you charge in, you risk getting stunlocked, slept, or hit with some other crowd control ability. Worst of all, she melts easily if there are no healers nearby to keep her alive.
Her kit does take time to master, but I would rather pick a hero with a simpler and more effective design philosophy, like The Thing. He can punch, deal big damage with his right-click, and still be a reliable pick for the team. Angela demands far more effort while offering much less in return.
Unreliable Hitbox for Charge

Angela’s biggest flaw is the hitbox on her Assassin’s Charge. This ability is meant to be her bread and butter, impaling enemies and carrying them through the air for a short distance. It should be her best tool for zoning and disrupting squishies like healers, but it’s simply not reliable. There’s no clear indication of whether you connected or not, and the inconsistency makes it incredibly frustrating. It’s comparable to Wolverine’s leap ability, except Angela’s is even less reliable, which feels unacceptable for her core move.
Angela’s presence in Marvel Rivals is interesting, and there’s always the chance NetEase will fine-tune her kit to make her more viable in higher elo through future patches. Still, her release is a worrying sign. It suggests that NetEase is rushing out new heroes without thoroughly testing their effectiveness. With one new hero arriving every month, the studio may be stretching itself too thin, churning out characters without proper quality control.
With Daredevil slated for release next month, here’s hoping NetEase takes the time to properly test and polish him, so he doesn’t end up as janky and buggy as Angela.
